What are your thoughts about building courses and workshops purely online and getting paid for it?

I cannot count the number of people who tell me to build courses to put on line. At first my humility and technophobia prevented any further action from me, however, I do have some interesting stuff to offer.

Where do I start? Anybody done this successfully and got any tips? Anyone tried and failed and got any 'what NOT to do' stories. I also see a LOT of stuff out thee for free - how do I leverage my content to create an income?
