Our son was born in early September, just missed the cutoff. They let him do 3K early, but he had to repeat it. Ok, it got him out of the house. He goes through 3K, 3K, 4K, now in K. He knows the older kids from when he was in with them. He’s huge, 90+ percentile for height. Now his MAPS testing is in, 99 percentile across the board. His reading level is in 3rd grade (we’ve stopped working at it so hard because it’s almost detrimental, but he wanted to learn to read) and he’s doing addition and subtraction problems. He’s doing word problems.
At what point do we push the school to bump him? How hard do we push and where? It’s not fair to him, his classmates, or his teacher.
Daughter is in a similar boat, but she just average age for 4K. She just learns most of what he does right alongside him. She’s started saying she hates going to school “because all we do is learn the ABC and counting to 20. I can read and do my own math.” She’s not wrong.
The school they’re in is one of the best in the area.
Any help or advice is appreciated, please send drinks.
