Grading 150 essays used to take my entire weekend, here's what changed

Being a TA means drowning in papers every single weekend. This semester I had three sections of freshman comp, about 150 students total. First assignment comes in and I'm seeing these weirdly polished essays from students who could barely string sentences together in class discussion.

Started manually checking suspicious phrases in google, comparing writing styles, basically playing detective. Was spending more time investigating than actually providing feedback. Total nightmare.

Professor suggested trying GPTZero to flag potential ai stuff first. Cut my review time by like 70%. Now I can focus on actually helping students improve instead of playing gotcha. The students submitting original work get better feedback too since I'm not exhausted from investigating.

Best part? Students know we check now so submission quality went up across the board. Some still try to sneak ai stuff through but at least it's obvious what needs closer review. My weekends exist again.
