Currently, in ELAC, I think this is not about education. Or is this U.S. Education all about?
Our professors do things like giving an answer to the student during exam because the exam includes a lot that he hasn't taught, telling the student to read the book by themselves and rush everything in the class, putting the half of the class in answering the homework question in order to slow down everything for him and saying I am tired and old, Putting the Alt-Right in the English exam and test the student. One of English Professor even said this during the class, "A big guy like Trump" and saying this at the end of the class to me "You are a liar, and I won't add you in the class"(Guess what my race is :D)
Let's start with my current Java programming class first. Nearly half of the classmate dropped the class after the fourth months that the class is started. That is because the professor does not want to teach. We have done two Exam: the first one is take home and the second one is in class. At least 25 % of each exam includes the part that he hasn't taught about. After I got my first exam, he even told me angrily if you make me works more, I will take out the point from you and your neighbor. I answered him, "I am sorry." Half of myself does not want to care about this professor because I have study Java for two months before taking his class and currently passing with an A." However, I feel sorry for other students. It's been four months that they still do not understand anything most likely and failing the class. In the Second Exam, I asked him why he put things in the Exam that he hasn't taught. He told me, "the answer is B." he also said, "If you want to learn, see me after the class." Most of my calculus professors and linear algebra professor are as same as him. They just hang around in the class. Most of them are from Santa Monica College working as part time here too. I hope I can give your guys my current class's information to show you guys how crazy my class is.
The Cal 3 professor I took was my Cal 1 and Cal2 professor. I know he is lazy. When I was in his Cal 2 class, he told us that he hasn't studied Cal 3. When in his Cal3 class, It was a nightmare. When I was in the Cal2, I saw people asking him the answer during Exam and Final. But, the thing goes even crazier in the Cal3. 50% of the class period is about talking HomeWork question. He says" Oh~ I am old and have not jerk. I need to relax in the class." That is why he let the student answer homework question in that 50% of HomeWork question period, and he just sits down with his computer. I see the Student next to me just watches the video to learn by himself. After I failed this class, I took the Math 125. Most of cal state LA student are in this Math125, and they struggle with high school math. One of them even is the TA in the engineering department. I don't want to talk about my linear algebra professor. He is also from Santa Monica College. He is as same as my professor in Java class.
Is this what the United States Education all about? I see most of the professor in ELAC are as same as this. I don't understand that they do not care about that their doing is making student fail.

ELI5 Why does college tuition increase every year?
In the state I live in, 2 pretty major state universities just approved 10% tuition hikes. According to collegeboard.org over the past 5 years, average tuition at public universities has risen by a similar metric. Is it a matter of chronic underfunding at the state/federal level? What gives?

Question regarding F1 students
Goodday people. Please I would like to make an inquiry about being an F1 student in the United States. What if an international student gets accepted into a college for the fall semester and on getting to the states changes his mind about the school and applies for the winter semester in another school and gets accepted before he begins studies in the current school? What processes does said student have to go through? Will the student be considered out of status within that time from the fall to winter semester? Please it's kinda urgent. Thank you.

Hey /r/education! I'm trying to implement an elective at my high school, and I need some advice.
I'm a high school senior trying to implement an elective for my AP Government project. I've talked to the Vice Principal and he's been giving me a disinterested attitude. Is there any way I can really get this elective underway even though the administration is being tough? This is an elective class called: "Career Exploration" and it's for students to learn about different things they can pursue in the future, whether it's through college, military, or vocational schools.

What would it take to implement something similar to the Finnish education system in the U.S.?
I know there is no disagreement here that our education system is in dire need of reform. One of the leading western countries is Finland, and while numerous educators have discussed what makes their system so successful, I have yet to see any serious consideration put towards implementing any of their policies. From what I've read, the system is based initially on educationally equality across the nation. What I want to know is, if given the opportunity to completely rehaul our federal policy while attempting to maintain the integrity of Ameeican culture, what would you do, and how would you do it?

What are my chances of getting a BA in political science?
Hi Reddit, dont know if this is the right place to ask this, but here goes: My Freshman and Sophmore year of highschool I did HORRENDOUSLY. I failed no classes Freshman year and the best I got was a solid C or if I was lucky a B in just one class. I never tried and ended up failing one semester of Algebra in Sophmore year. Anyways fast forward to jr year, I started paying more attention but then I was "diagnosed" with a learning disability in math (turns out I really do have a disability in math, even with all the tedious hours of trying). So I was given an IEP (Independent Education Program), this would remove Geometry and any previously required math programs from my graduation requirements. This was after I was technically considered a dropout when I was out of school for two weeks working at whataburger.
I realize this was all my fault and I have taken responsibility for my short term desires, and for never trying too hard in school, but when I came back, I came back motivated.
I had returned to school and caught up on two weeks worth of work, managed to get a 3.0 GPA for that whole first semester and a 3.5 GPA for the upcoming semesters and the one Im in now. Since I've came back, I have never (not to brag) recieved a history, English, or math concepts, art, test score at less than 80% which is a big thing more me, considering I used to fail every single test I got. This is especially true in u.s history, i usually never get any test score below 90% (although, the twenties era, i was never interested in so I got one of my lowest scores, an 84%). In most of my classes I have A's, except for Chemistry which has been the death of me. I have a D in Chemistry right now and it's been fluctuating from D to C for a while, but I haven't failed it and I dont intend to.
Now I have been mainting really high percentage A's (with the exception of Chem). I have senior year to go and I am taking the following classes:
1)Spanish 3-4 (foreign lang. requirment for four year University )
2) English 7-8
3)AP (Advanced Placement) Government and Econ.
4)Math Concepts
5) Retaking one semester of Algebra in LS (Learning Services)
I am currently still in the IEP and it will be the system probably forever, and I have been looking for Four Year universities in Arizona and the only school that is okay with taking special ed students is UofA. Im taking my SAT next year even though everyone else took it this year but I was too late in finding out about it (again, my fault). I'm determined to get 4.0 next year, even though my cumulative GPA is terrible (my councillor said im never going to get it up to the standard of 80% even if I got perfect grades this year and next year).
I have no idea what Im going to do with the funds if I do manage to get into U of A. The tuituon is absolutely sky high. But my mom said financial aid should cover alot since were lower middle class.
So like the title says, what are the chances of me getting a BA in Poli Sci? I cant be stuck with an associates degree because I want to learn alot, not just a little. Community colleges dont offer BAs in my area and it really sucks. Also about the special ed thing, what are the chances they will actually accomodate my needs in not knowing math? Right now, Im learning 6th grade math, not even close to college math, what do I do?
Edit: I apologize for the typos, im on mobile.

Why not just have a federal data base of educational material that schools could use if they wanted.
People will always resist being told what to do.
So why not create an educational database that is free for all to use if they want.
Get some of the best teachers in all subjects (even stuff we don't like, creationism, sex ex, abstinence only sex Ed etc) and create lesson plans for every grade and subject.
-
Lesson plans
- Streaming lectures
- Online notes
- Online quizes/answers
- Online tests/answers
- Educational videos a la cp grey
- Online text books
Don't force any of it on anyone just make it available to all.
States, counties, cities schools, teachers can use whatever they want. Parents and students can use whatever their school isn't offering them if they want.
What would be the downside?

Advice Please: Which Country to Study In?
Hi there,
I'm a newly 22 year old Canadian born to both an English Dad & Czech / Bulgarian Mum.
Currently residing in London (UK) on an ancestry visa (5 years that turns into PR and then Citizenship if I want) at the moment and finally figured out what I want to study..
I'm just thinking about where would be the best to study in terms of cost, location and degree recognition.
Basically I can study in Canada on the domestic fees as a citizen of course, or the UK and EU paying home fees (domestic) using my Czech Passport (for now in UK, pre brexit however long until the fees potentially change)
In Canada, the loan system I'd have to use is pretty shit and I'd have to pay back a big loan whether I use that in Canada or a Canadian loan for the education in the UK and as I am not a British citizen yet, I can't get UK loans.
My end goal is to live and work, probably study as well a Masters in Australia. My end goal all around is to just try living in Australia before I'm 30 and see if I like it to try and stay there.
I'd prefer to pay the lowest amount possible for the Bachelors which had me thinking of studying in Germany which is free except for the admin fees etc.. But I've always heard that a European Degree can be a hit or miss in terms of it's international recognition eg in UK, Canada, Australia.
I don't know if that's just Eastern Europe though where all the highly qualified people (neuroscientist etc) I know from there basically became janitors/security guards etc in the UK/Canada.
I'd rather stay in the UK and study then if Germany is not a good option for international recognition, but it will be a bit more expensive there as I'm pulling out a Canadian student loan for the UK (thankfully on home fees and not international fees)
I really don't want to study in Canada because I want to keep exploring the world and being in different parts while I have the chance with the benefits of my visa / eu passport etc.
To summarize what I'm wondering-
Is it worth studying in Germany? Or will my education not really count internationally (Australia and Canada for example)
If no good, is it better for me to go back to Canada when I'd rather not even though it will be cheaper for me study there because I have to take out Canadian student loans either there or for the UK education..
Also because maybe Canadian education is better than in the UK? I don't know.
Hopefully that all made sense..
Can anyone shed some light on this at all from their experience or knowledge?
Thank you so much.

Opinion: Senior year is far more difficult than Junior year in high school
People are always saying that junior year is the hardest year in high school, but I've found through my experiences that this is far off. I'm taking almost all AP classes, and I'm taking the same number of them this year as last year. Difference is I have a job and have to get ready for college this year. So essentially it is the same difficulty but with much less time to do anything and much more to do. People always say senior year tapers off at the second half of the year but this was not the case with me at all and I have less than a month left and none of my teachers have shown any signs of slowing down with workload. Ugh.

What jobs would I like, RE is my favourite subject at school and I also love photography and German.
I am only 15 (first year of GCSEs) but I am already thinking about jobs I'd like to do. I am not planning on going to university or having education past sixth form/college, I would like to start work when I am about 18. Don't get me wrong, I'm not stupid or anything (I even study triple science as my teachers believed I was good enough for it and I have high target grades for everything) I just don't have an interest on spending so much longer on education than I need to when I could already be working at a high paying job before most people have even graduated uni. Probably do an apprenticeship but I have no idea what in. My dream job is to be a photographer but it may be very difficult but I think I will be pretty good at it by the time I'm 18 since I take it for GCSE and plan on taking it in sixth form for A levels. I am thinking about jobs that have something to do with religion or morality - does that make sense? I don't know how to say it but that interests me a lot. I also love German so maybe I could go there and become fluent and do something with that? I don't know. I spent a week there for a German exchange and although I was rather shy with the family I loved the country and just being immersed in the culture was great. I love the language also. I have no idea what I'd like to do when I'm older. I need suggestions I like to pre plan everything or at least have an idea. Sorry this is very long I'll be surprised if people reply - congrats if you have even read this far down!

Need help fixing parent's mistake
tl:dr : If I was illegally homeschooled for my 11th and 12th grade years but I still have my transcripts can I somehow get my High School Diploma or Letter of Approval to join the US Army?
Story : After Middle School I decided against going to High School and wanted to Home School to do basically the same amount of work in much less time, so I asked my Mother to Home School me because she had plenty of time to and after my 10th grade year we moved to a city over and had to transfer to another School Board in the mean time also she thought it was a good idea to try to enroll me into the High School nearby (which I was against) after I had told her I didn't feel like going to a public school she allowed me to Home School but this time she didn't speak with the School Board. I have my transcripts for 9th-12th grade so how can I get my Letter of Approval or Diploma?

How do you Manage new learnings (from books, videos, courses, etc)
I'm looking for anyone to give me an insight on how they go about formally documenting learnings that they take away from any media - that could be reading books, videos, formal classes (for e.g coursera) - so that they can recall it at a future moment.
For example, I've read 10 great books in the last year, with each of them having 2-10 key takeaways. While the main ones might stick in my mind, a majority of them are forgotten. I know it is impossible to memorize all of them.
However, I'd like to have a place that I can list them out, with contextual examples, and maybe a tag system so that it is easy to find.
For example, if it is something to do with 'negotiations', I tag it such, and can see all the learnings that are to do with it.
I've explored several knowledge-management platforms such as Wikis and Confluence, but those don't feel suitable.
I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to post this, but I feel recall is a key part of 'education'

the future of education.
I posted a thread a while ago entitled Wouldn't it be better if we learned things like medicine, mechanics, electrics, civil-construction, i.e. USEFUL things in school rather than all the other stuff?, where i raised questions about the practical value/usefulness of some of our currently taught disciplines and offered some examples of other set of knowledges that perhaps would be of more value/relevance in today's reality.
Unfortunately, people seem to have missed my point entirely, and what was supposed to be just an idea to be bounced and maybe food for thought ended up with them trying to find flaws in my thinking. Which i wasn't expecting, at all, giving the simplicity of what i was trying to say.
Fortunately, a user posted this article:
No, Finland isn’t ditching traditional school subjects. Here’s what’s really happening.
Some quotes;
Finland’s plans to replace the teaching of classic school subjects such as history or English with broader, cross-cutting “topics” as part of a major education reform have been getting global attention, thanks to an article in The Independent, one of the United Kingdom’s trusted newspapers. Stay calm: despite the reforms, Finnish schools will continue to teach mathematics, history, arts, music and other subjects in the future.
Sahlberg, one of the world’s leading experts on school reform and educational practices, is a visiting professor of practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is the author of the best-selling “Finnish Lessons: What Can the World Learn About Educational Change in Finland?” — originally published in 2011 and recently republished in an updated edition. The former director general of Finland’s Center for International Mobility and Cooperation, Sahlberg has written a number of important posts for this blog, including “What if Finland’s great teachers taught in U.S. schools,” and “What the U.S. can’t learn from Finland about ed reform.”
You may wonder why Finland’s education authorities now insist that all schools must spend time on integration and phenomenon-based teaching when Finnish students’ test scores have been declining in the most recent international tests. The answer is that educators in Finland think, quite correctly, that schools should teach what young people need in their lives rather than try to bring national test scores back to where they were.
What Finnish youth need more than before are more integrated knowledge and skills about real world issues, many argue. An integrated approach, based on lessons from some schools with longer experience of that, enhances teacher collaboration in schools and makes learning more meaningful to students.
Well, you should read the full article to better understand what is "phenomenon-based" teaching means. But basically it means they can manage to customize school programs at municipal level, and when it comes to global subjects, they deal with what's happening in the world right now.
Well, this article got me interested because it touches some points i've though of myself, now i'm curious to hear your thoughts on it.

Senior seminar
This summer I am doing a directed study for my senior seminar in history, and I was not ready for what the professor said about the topic. "Anything historical that you find interesting can be your topic.
So I can write on anything I want....that's a burden because there is a lot of interesting topics that I can write on. In fact, there isn't a lot that I do not find interesting, and I could write a paper looking at the history of any of theme. Science, philosophy, social issues, politics, history (the history of history even).
How do I narrow it down so I can have an actual topic. I need to go from anything and everything to focused on about 2 weeks. Tips?

Why Algorithms Are Important When Doing Homework in College
In college, we have homework that have to be completed online. We would input an answer and the program gives us instant feedback. This is a way to save time when computing final scores.
The programs check your answer using algorithms. Algorithms are a set of sequential instructions a program follow. They are used in calculators, especially graphing calculators. These calculators require an input and out comes the solution.
When I took calculus in college, some questions can be solved by inserting a complex answer. The software then uses algorithms to do its own calculations and determine if your answer is correct or not. For example, if a question asks for the derivative of abc, I would insert a'bc+ab'c+ab'c, the software then simplify the answer, and consider it correct. In a quiz, I inserted a correct complex answer and the professor reminded me to simplify it.
In accounting, the care if your numbers are correct and your accounts are correct. Sometimes, the software doesn't care about the ordering of accounts.
In logic philosophy, some questions can have more than one correct answer. The questions where you have use proofs only care when you get to the desired solution, similar to how it's done in geometry.

Wouldn't it be better if we learned things like medicine, mechanics, electrics, civil-construction, i.e. USEFUL things in school rather than all the other stuff?
Things like;
- Fixing a car and understanding it, along with physics concepts, etc..
- Electrics in a practical manner, the concepts and theory comes along.
- Civil-construction, how to actually build a house.
- Medicine/Pharmaceuticals...
- Music playing, singing, acting, arts in general...
- Planting, yeah, like how you get your own farm going, etc...
- Technology, computers, automating things, making life better with tech, etc...
And other useful things like psychology and human behavior, sociology, leadership and power structures, mastering skills, critical-thinking.
I mean, there is so much energy and time spent learning things like history, geography, biology down to the DNA level, chemistry that we don't even know if applies anymore, and we can't really use this at all in our lives or in our society.
I know that there are specific educational courses to all of this stuff i've mentioned. But i just think primary/high-school are a waste of time that could be better spent teaching people actual life skills instead of all the stuff we're used to.

Harvard: Impact of Fluoride on neurological development in children
Is it time to have a discussion about fluoridated water in America? The classroom could be a powerful way to start a grassroot movement to quit poisoning 70% of Americans (roughly 185 million) water supply. What are yall thoughts?
Here are 15 quick facts about fluoridated water: 1) Fluoride is the only chemical added to water for the purpose of medical treatment. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classifies fluoride as a drug when used to prevent or mitigate disease (FDA 2000). As a matter of basic logic, adding fluoride to water for the sole purpose of preventing tooth decay (a non-waterborne disease) is a form of medical treatment. All other water treatment chemicals are added to improve the water’s quality or safety, which fluoride does not do.
2) Fluoridation is unethical. Informed consent is standard practice for all medication, and one of the key reasons why most of Western Europe has ruled against fluoridation. With water fluoridation we are allowing governments to do to whole communities (forcing people to take a medicine irrespective of their consent) what individual doctors cannot do to individual patients.
Put another way: Does a voter have the right to require that their neighbor ingest a certain medication (even if it is against that neighbor’s will)?
3) The dose cannot be controlled. Once fluoride is put in the water it is impossible to control the dose each individual receives because people drink different amounts of water. Being able to control the dose a patient receives is critical. Some people (e.g., manual laborers, athletes, diabetics, and people with kidney disease) drink substantially more water than others.
4) The fluoride goes to everyone regardless of age, health or vulnerability. According to Dr. Arvid Carlsson, the 2000 Nobel Laureate in Medicine and Physiology and one of the scientists who helped keep fluoridation out of Sweden: “Water fluoridation goes against leading principles of pharmacotherapy, which is progressing from a stereotyped medication — of the type 1 tablet 3 times a day — to a much more individualized therapy as regards both dosage and selection of drugs. The addition of drugs to the drinking water means exactly the opposite of an individualized therapy” (Carlsson 1978).
5) People now receive fluoride from many other sources besides water. Fluoridated water is not the only way people are exposed to fluoride. Other sources of fluoride include food and beverages processed with fluoridated water (Kiritsy 1996; Heilman 1999), fluoridated dental products (Bentley 1999; Levy 1999), mechanically deboned meat (Fein 2001), tea (Levy 1999), and pesticide residues (e.g., from cryolite) on food (Stannard 1991; Burgstahler 1997). It is now widely acknowledged that exposure to non-water sources of fluoride has significantly increased since the water fluoridation program first began (NRC 2006).
6) Fluoride is not an essential nutrient. No disease, not even tooth decay, is caused by a “fluoride deficiency.”(NRC 1993; Institute of Medicine 1997, NRC 2006). Not a single biological process has been shown to require fluoride. On the contrary there is extensive evidence that fluoride can interfere with many important biological processes. Fluoride interferes with numerous enzymes (Waldbott 1978). In combination with aluminum, fluoride interferes with G-proteins (Bigay 1985, 1987). Such interactions give aluminum-fluoride complexes the potential to interfere with signals from growth factors, hormones and neurotransmitters (Strunecka & Patocka 1999; Li 2003). More and more studies indicate that fluoride can interfere with biochemistry in fundamental ways (Barbier 2010).
7) The level in mothers’ milk is very low. Considering reason #6 it is perhaps not surprising that the level of fluoride in mother’s milk is remarkably low (0.004 ppm, NRC, 2006). This means that a bottle-fed baby consuming fluoridated water (0.6 – 1.2 ppm) can get up to 300 times more fluoride than a breast-fed baby. There are no benefits (see reasons #11-19), only risks (see reasons #21-36), for infants ingesting this heightened level of fluoride at such an early age (an age where susceptibility to environmental toxins is particularly high).
8 ) Fluoride accumulates in the body. Healthy adult kidneys excrete 50 to 60% of the fluoride ingested each day (Marier & Rose 1971). The remainder accumulates in the body, largely in calcifying tissues such as the bones and pineal gland (Luke 1997, 2001). Infants and children excrete less fluoride from their kidneys and take up to 80% of ingested fluoride into their bones (Ekstrand 1994). The fluoride concentration in bone steadily increases over a lifetime (NRC 2006).
9) No health agency in fluoridated countries is monitoring fluoride exposure or side effects. No regular measurements are being made of the levels of fluoride in urine, blood, bones, hair, or nails of either the general population or sensitive subparts of the population (e.g., individuals with kidney disease).
10) There has never been a single randomized controlled trial to demonstrate fluoridation’s effectiveness or safety. Despite the fact that fluoride has been added to community water supplies for over 60 years, “there have been no randomized trials of water fluoridation” (Cheng 2007). Randomized trials are the standard method for determining the safety and effectiveness of any purportedly beneficial medical treatment. In 2000, the British Government’s “York Review” could not give a single fluoridation trial a Grade A classification – despite 50 years of research (McDonagh 2000). The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to classify fluoride as an “unapproved new drug.”
11) Benefit is topical not systemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 1999, 2001) has now acknowledged that the mechanism of fluoride’s benefits are mainly topical, not systemic. There is no need whatsoever, therefore, to swallow fluoride to protect teeth. Since the purported benefit of fluoride is topical, and the risks are systemic, it makes more sense to deliver the fluoride directly to the tooth in the form of toothpaste. Since swallowing fluoride is unnecessary, and potentially dangerous, there is no justification for forcing people (against their will) to ingest fluoride through their water supply.
12) Fluoridation is not necessary. Most western, industrialized countries have rejected water fluoridation, but have nevertheless experienced the same decline in childhood dental decay as fluoridated countries.
13) Fluoridation’s role in the decline of tooth decay is in serious doubt. The largest survey ever conducted in the US (over 39,000 children from 84 communities) by the National Institute of Dental Research showed little difference in tooth decay among children in fluoridated and non-fluoridated communities (Hileman 1989). According to NIDR researchers, the study found an average difference of only 0.6 DMFS (Decayed, Missing, and Filled Surfaces) in the permanent teeth of children aged 5-17 residing their entire lives in either fluoridated or unfluoridated areas (Brunelle & Carlos, 1990). This difference is less than one tooth surface, and less than 1% of the 100+ tooth surfaces available in a child’s mouth. Large surveys from three Australian states have found even less of a benefit, with decay reductions ranging from 0 to 0.3 of one permanent tooth surface (Spencer 1996; Armfield & Spencer 2004). None of these studies have allowed for the possible delayed eruption of the teeth that may be caused by exposure to fluoride, for which there is some evidence (Komarek 2005). A one-year delay in eruption of the permanent teeth would eliminate the very small benefit recorded in these modern studies.
14) NIH-funded study on individual fluoride ingestion and tooth decay found no significant correlation. A multi-million dollar, U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded study found no significant relationship between tooth decay and fluoride intake among children. (Warren 2009) This is the first time tooth decay has been investigated as a function of individual exposure (as opposed to mere residence in a fluoridated community).
15) Tooth decay is high in low-income communities that have been fluoridated for years. Despite some claims to the contrary, water fluoridation cannot prevent the oral health crises that result from rampant poverty, inadequate nutrition, and lack of access to dental care. There have been numerous reports of severe dental crises in low-income neighborhoods of US cities that have been fluoridated for over 20 years (e.g., Boston, Cincinnati, New York City, and Pittsburgh). In addition, research has repeatedly found fluoridation to be ineffective at preventing the most serious oral health problem facing poor children, namely “baby bottle tooth decay,” otherwise known as early childhood caries (Barnes 1992; Shiboski 2003).

The College Process
When I applied for college, I have take the SAT, the SAT II, and the ACT. I applied for six CUNY colleges, three CUNY colleges, and two private colleges.
I took the ACT to ensure CUNY english proficiency, but found out they accept SAT, Regents, and the diagnostic exams.
The SUNY acceptance letter arrived first. I got accepted by one of the colleges I applied. I was given a packet to fill out. I still wanted to wait for the other colleges. I didn't fill out the forms and ignored their emails.
The private colleges arrived next. Only one responded back. I didn't want to go because it's expensive. I later declined their offer.
The CUNY colleges arrived the last. Two colleges accepted me. I replied only one of them. The offer came a few days before my birthday.
The college I currently attend is a very selective one. Getting accepted is a privilege for me.

Creating interactive 3D assets for science and engineering education
Hello all,
I'm not an educator, I'm an engineering student graduating this semester. I've been using CAD software at work, and learning software like blender and maya in my spare time. I'd like to create some interactive tools for use in classroom education to do things like describe values of a function, or visualize radiating energy from an antenna based on parameters changing. I've no clue how to create 3D interactive objects, and i would like the objects to include things like bar graphs or numbers showing values live. Has anyone had any experience creating custom 3D interactive objects? What software should I use?

Why does it seem like american highschools have harder Curricular's?
I met a bunch of people who exchanged in The University of Sydney and became quite close with them.
One of the things that pop up is the fact that they all seem to have learnt harder math topics such as conics and differentiation by grade 10 or 11 whereas the Sydney highschool curriculum only teaches conics/complex numbers in 4U (four unit maths, the highest level highschool math in grade 12/senior year) and differentiation in 3U grade 11 math or 2U grade 12 math.
They all seemed to be surprised that 17 year olds in Sydney did those topics let alone the topics being in the hardest math levels.
Can someone shed some light?
Thanks

Would popular audience be interested in references of a book?
I am in the process of translating an English pop science book (What If? from Randal Munroe) to my language, and I'm not sure whether translating the reference is beneficial or not. On one hand, leaving them untranslated is widely acceptable in any popsci book, and encouraged in any writing style (Chicago, ISO). On the other hand, this book is not only a popsci book, it's also written in humorous style with comic, in which a kid wrote it to other kids. That way, even the references should also be informative as much as possible. By translating it as if it is regular text, they can get accustomed to academic norms.
But if they don't like reading them, then there's no point to translate them, right? That's why I would like to see how the German translation handles this. AFAIK, it was announced at the same time with the original one, which pursues perfectionism. It should have the same mindset with it. The Portuguese translation doesn't do this.

"Superficial" things about being a college professor
I finished with college, doing a couple gap years now before settling on long term work. I'm especially attracted to being a college professor, especially at a small liberal arts college where I'd be able to focus on teaching and make close relationships with students.
There are a few things I'm worried about though. I do have parents who emphasize that I make a high salary, basically get "successful" in the very traditional sense. While this factor isn't the most important of things, I'm curious if anyone out there can anyone out there fill me in on whether college professors struggle with low pay? I know that's generally a problem with teachers, but my impression is that it's not as prevalent for college professors. I may be wrong though.
Another is, one of my professors told me that I shouldn't enter academia if I care about where I want to live. Is this sound advice?
Last is, I heard some horror stories of college professors having no free time and being generally overworked. Is this true, more so than for other professions?
Thanks for all your help!

Politics in Classroom Lectures
Currently I am taking microeconomics, which talk about personal decisions. The professor always throw in politics in the class. Even governments make personal decisions. He even made references about Trump and his personal decisions. I sometimes talk to him about real-life examples and he has an answer right away.
In Intermediate Japanese II, the professor always make references about politics. He has shown a video about a sinkhole in Fukuoka, which was fixed overnight. On the day after Trump was elected, he started make references of right-wing groups being open with their ideologies in Japan. When introducing a movie or show, we had a conversation about politics in Japan.
Some teachers avoid talking about politics as they want to stay neutral. However, some do talk about it. Last semester, there is a business law professor that tells the students the truth about our screw-up situations in governments, i.e. money in politics.

Survey for an education project
I'm a college student and for my semester final I have an education project where I can do anything. Ive chosen to do a basic questionnaire. If there are teachers here that would be willing to take it, it would be much appreciated. It's on educational methods and approaches and just a simple questionnaire. Its 7 questions and a link is provided below. Thank you ahead of time if you do take it
http://ift.tt/2o1Q9d5 Also if you could share this with other teachers that you may work with it would be amazing cuz I want to get it done as soon as possible so I can go through all of the responses

Eduaction project
I am a college student who is pursuing a degree in teaching. I don't know if this is the place for this type of thing but I'm going to give it a shot. I have at the end of this semester an educational project that can literally be anything I want it to be and I was going to ask if there were any teachers here that would like to take part in my questionnaire. It's very basic questions about method and approaches. It's 7 questions long and it's very simple, just a feeler questionnaire try to get an idea of methods that I can eventually adapt or pick up. If it's something you would be interesting in helping me out with if you can p.m. me your email address I can send you a copy of it. it would be greatly appreciated!

I'm kind of curious about this, while it sounds amazing do you think it would back fire? Would getting into college be so much more harder? or would finding a job be more tough

Survey responses from teachers
hello all! I am making a math game for my software development class on the basis that Primary school aged children (from prep to grade 3) benefit from educational games , and we must do research before hand to back up my reasoning behind this game. It would be much appreciated if i got some feedback from people on this subreddit
This is my link http://ift.tt/2ojbSix Thankyou again :)
