Education is terrible today because...

Students are not given any responsibility for their success. I have been told numerous times by admins that "there is not a single behavioral problem that cannot be solved with good lesson plans". BS. I know because I was (and still am) someone who would misbehave in class or meetings because I simply was not in the mood to be there. This idea that teachers should be some kind of miracle worker is why our education system is just dying.

I became a teacher last year after 15 years out of school (well, I did grad school in that time, but it was online) and I was shocked at how much has changed in education since I was a kid. History is no longer about actually knowing any history, it's about "being able to understand and analyze". But without context, the kids simply have no clue how to actually analyze because they've never been expected to actually remember any facts. When I was in school, we had 50 minute lectures, papers and tests. Today, if we lecture for more than 10 minutes it's a problem...and the kids all have to do group work, or drawings in history or other "fun" activities to keep them interested. Back in the day, what kept your attention was the fact that you needed the information in order to pass. These new methods (and the whole "everyone gets a trophy) have killed the American education system. Until this changes, we will continue to see our kids deteriorate until they need Alexa to figure out how to open a door.
