Are integrated courses worth it?

Are integrated courses worth pursuing? A friend completed a 5 year course in Mechanical engineering but when he went job hunting, he was informed that he wouldn't be hired because 'He's more qualified than students who have a bachelor's degree but his Master's degree isn't as preferable as students who have pursued their Master's after completing Bachelor's ( 6 years).
