Advice regarding gaining experience the education field before graduating

Not sure if this is the right sub or not. I an Currently a sophomore in college working on gaining my bachelors in social science education. With the long term goal of teaching social studies at the high school level in the United states.my current job is completely unrelated to my field and i have been thinking of making a change after coming into enough money that would allow me to just focus on my education. My problem is without my current job when I graduate i will have no recent job references.someone had suggested to me to find an internship. So my question is where can i find relevant experience to the education field? as far as i am aware in my field everything requires a degrees and any sort of teaching assistant positions have been eliminated or very hard to come by in my area. I could do paid or unpaid internship it don't matter but where would i even find one? Let alone who would i speak to at the university about finding one?
