Discussing Gender in the Classroom

As the title hints, this may be a touchy/difficult subject to navigate. But I would like some of this communities ideas. How should we go about reverting the intuitive nature of the binary gender system in our younger education, namely elementary education? My reason for not teaching the spectrum of gender early would be that it’s dangerous, as statistics have shown, to allow that much influence on a child that early on. (Mentally)So how should we teach intuitively that gender is not binary up until the appropriate age to teach about the full scope of the subject?
