Slide Decks in Elementary

Hey ya'll. I'm an elementary teacher, currently SpEd/Reading Interventionists. I'm in year 10. Prior to Covid I was a classroom teacher. Around year 3 I got a smart board and used it for some things. Geometry was cool to teach on it. We did some cool activities like simulating glacial melt for the kids to learn about erosion. Most of the time the Board just sat there.

Now though, every teacher I know is totally dependent on them in the Elementary level. At a recent school I was asked to coach every teacher had a slide deck for the entire day. They spent hours putting them together. I was shocked. They didn't do conferences during silent reading. Math was entirely based on model and application. Even Morning Meeting had slides and a youtube video. I didn't get it.

Can someone explain this shift?

I grew up with the tech. We had to demonstrate a certain level of proficiency with it to graduate high school. I'm barely 30 and not afraid of technology.
