Hello everyone, I just have a question about the American school system. Is "the divide" really that big? To give you context, I have family who just moved (more than a year ago) to the US with their school age children and they were so happy that their kids are getting such high grades in school, straight As. Not to talk bad about the kids, but these kids are considered average of even slightly below average back home.
We came from a developing country, so I expected that they (the kids) may find it hard to compete with American kids considering the US is a develop country. Develop = Better education system. Higher standard of education, etc. But seems like this is not an isolated case, at least what other new immigrant kids are saying it really is easier in the US (purely anecdotal).
So, I'm thinking, is that true? How can a country with universities that are on the very top of the world have such low standard for (early) education? Is the divide really that big? While a small amount of people are getting top tier, world changing education the majority are just sub par?
