Everyone has heard of a snow day, where school is cancelled due to excess snow fall, but what about a ‘heat day’? Schools in New York recently have been instigating just that – shortened or no school due to the scorching weather conditions currently hitting the state. I know that schools in Australia have ‘heat days’, when the weather just becomes too hot for school to occur, but I have never heard of such occurrences in the United States. Do you believe that a ‘heat day’ should become a set system in US schools? Or do you believe it is an overreaction?
