Alabama has ranked last in education. As an Alabama mom, how can I improve my child’s education?

Several bullet points I think are important. 1. I grew up in Florida and moved to Alabama when I was 15. I went from struggling in school to making all As. Because my Alabama school didn’t go over one thing I didn’t already know, except math, which I’ve always done well in anyway. 2. Florida schools push standardized test, by a lot, compared to Alabama schools. I never took the ACT (for several reasons) but I did take a “compass test” for community college to see which classes I needed to start in. I made a perfect score, I contribute it to my time learning standardized test in Florida. When I asked her teachers about any ACT prep she could start now (going into 7th grade) they said it was WAY too early. But it doesn’t seem too early to me. It wasn’t too early in Florida. 3. I work at a school now as a nurse. The amount of time students are doing nothing IS ASTONISHING! I’m talking some spend the entire year doing nothing in certain classes. They have an on-line teacher and get credit for “viewing” the lesson. But all they do is mute it and play on their phone. And she goes to what is considered a good school. 4. The other day I was going over presidents with my daughter. I try to lastmake learning a game and a conversation. (The game is she gets a quarter for every question she gets right. But has to give me a quarter back for every question she gets wrong. She can also get a quarter for asking “thought provoking questions”. We only play in the car. I know a quarter doesn’t sound like much, but she can make an easy $5 on an hour long trip.) She told me she learns more from me than she does at school. It initially made me proud but broke my heart. But then it made me kind of mad. I see her homework and class work. It’s all busy work and pointless.

I just read Alabama is in education. I don’t want my daughter held back in life because the education system in this state can’t get it together.

Also, and I don’t mean to sound judgmental, but after working in the school system I see the multigenerational effect of poor education.
