Question on swapping focus

I ask because I do not know how it all works so sorry if it is a stupid question but...

If my MAT is in secondary education 6-12, how hard is it later to swap to say Early Education? Is it a test, do I have to go through another 1-2 years of school, etc.? I really have zero idea on that.
