Is it a good idea to departmentalize for 5th grade?

My team is considering dividing up into 1) math 2) ELA and 3) Science and social studies.

We have 3 teachers. Each of us would teach only one of the subjects and we would rotate.

Is this a good idea? I think from a practical mindset it makes sense: less planning means we can focus more on making good lessons for our subjects. But is it too young to do this?

Thoughts?
