Hi all,
Situation/background
- We are currently in ideation phase of a new project -> a STEM educational/tutoring center
- Idea is to offer structured alternative to ad-hoc 121 tutoring, i.e. regular 1-2x per week lessons in a small group (~5 students) which would follow school curriculum but sometimes go wider or deeper on certain topics
- Plan is that the center is STEM focused, starting with math for grades 1-8 and potentially expanding in other subjects and grades later
Our experience
- Combined partners & I have 10+ years of experience of 121 tutoring (for all grades/ages) as well as TA-ing courses at college level
Main question
- In the geographical area we plan to operate, a typical class length in school is 45min or 90min long
- We'd like to make 'studying' at our center unique experience with regards to teaching strategy and lesson structure
- As purely an example of what I mean by this, instead of having typical 45min class, we could have:
- 30min theory - where teacher introduces new concepts or revises last lesson's concepts
- 20min problem solving - where students would solve problems individually
- 30min theory - where teacher continues new concept introduction
Could anyone recommend me some material/books/videos/whatever which explores different kind of class structure, or simply share their thoughts openly?
I'd like to learn best practices and not re-invent the wheel :)
Thanks a lot!
