Why learn Chinese? / 为什么要学中文？

Honestly, we don’t have to. There are more than 7,000 languages in the world, and speaking just one is already enough for daily survival.
老实说，我们完全可以不学。世界上有7000多种语言，会其中一种，其实就足够生存了。

But here’s the deeper question: it’s not only about Chinese, it’s about knowledge.
但更深层的问题是：不只是“中文”，而是“为什么要学习任何知识”。

If humans only needed to eat and sleep, then one language would be enough. But we are not only survival animals, we’re intellectual ones — we communicate, create, and imagine.
如果人类只需要吃饭睡觉，那一种语言就够了。但人类不仅仅是生存的动物，而是有思想的动物——我们需要交流、创造和想象。

Knowledge is like opening windows. Without it, the world feels small. With it, new possibilities appear — even if you don’t use them every day.
知识就像窗户。没有它，世界会很狭窄。有了它，就会出现新的可能性——哪怕你不是每天都用得上。

So no, we don’t need another language. But if one day we feel curious and want to explore more, Chinese (or any other language) is simply one more window to the world.
所以，你确实不必一定学外语。但如果哪天你想探索更大的世界，中文（或其他语言）就是我们多开的一扇窗。
