Hi everyone,
I need to be honest: I feel pretty lost right now.
I did a BSc and then an MSc in Geophysics, but it’s been 3 years since I graduated and I still haven’t managed to find a stable job in the field (geosciences) I care so much about. My only real experience is about 6 months of work plus a few internships during my studies.
I live in the EU, but in my country there’s basically no networking, no events or industry connections, and no entry-level opportunities in geosciences. All is about luck... I’ve applied everywhere I could in geosciences and related fields, but most jobs want 2–3+ years of experience.
I even asked classmates and professors, but they don’t know of any opportunities either.
I’ve invested time and money in extra courses, certifications, and volunteering to build my resume. Still, I don’t want to give up. This field is my passion, and it’s what I want to dedicate my career to.
That’s why I’m considering a second master’s abroad in Geosciences (Germany, France, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, UK, etc.), hoping that stronger job markets and industry ties might finally give me a chance. Another option - a master’s in a related but broader field to complement my background and open more doors.
So I’d love to hear from this community:
-Has anyone here done a second MSc after struggling to find work? Did it actually open doors?
-If you were to do a a masters in a other field, which fields would make the most sense?
I feel stuck between my passion and the reality of the job market, and I don’t want to waste more years without building the career I’ve always dreamed of.
Any advice, honest opinions, or personal stories would mean a lot. Thanks for reading.
