New York Commissioner of Education Question

I’ll admit I’m not an educator my self although I’m looking to gain some information about the powers or authority that the NY or really any Commissioner of Education has. If there’s a better place to ask this I’d be happy to go there, but any information on the subject would be helpful.

I’ve found this so far although I can’t seem to find anything else.
