I was interested in this question as I know it is one that is likely very well-researched.
In terms of age of concern, I would say I'm mostly directing this question for secondary school students and those at the collegiate/university level.
Are there any root factors that are commonly the cause? Or is there maybe a chain of factors that are collectively contributing notably? I know for these types of students, it's usually a never-ending list of contributing factors, but I thought I would ask here if a few are seen as universally common in being the most detrimentally influential.
In my experience, (although this is purely from being a teacher and not research), I would guess the most contributing factor is the lack of belief/foundation for education, which is mostly caused by absent/careless parents and bad peer groups. Although I could see others arguing the lack of resources is most influential.
Let me know your thoughts. I look forward to your response.
