Thoughts on textbooks, digital textbooks, and other "textbook" forms or delivery methods?

Whether you're a teacher or just generally interested in (or involved in) education, I'd like to hear people's thoughts on textbooks. What do you think of the idea of physical vs. eTextbooks?

If you were or are a teacher, do you have any thoughts on using one over the other, and why? More specifically, is there a way you think is more beneficial to utilize the content than either of these methods? I've been having some ideas on what might be a better alternative, but I want to see what other people's experiences are first.

EDIT: To put it another way, what was one of the best textbook experiences you ever had and what made it that way?
