Would I have a better chance of getting accepted into college with HS diploma and low GPA or GED with high scores on SAT?

In previous years my grades were absolutely horrible in School. This was because of problems going on at home. My mother cared less that her children had no food. We had nothing so I was constantly trying to come up with income so me and my brother could be comfortable. This caused me to drop out of school since at the time, even though it should have been, was the not at all a concern. I was out of school for a year and decided to come back. Now that I have my full attention in school I have straight A's and advanced in my class's. Even if this year I maintain a 4.0 for the entire year my average GPA would come out to be about 1.8. I'm scheduled to take the SAT in a couple months and I know for a fact that I'll get a good score. Would I have a greater chance of getting accepted into college with a GED along with good scores on the SAT oppose to having a HS diploma and an extremely low GPA?
