Teachers - What do you think of doing away with summer vacation?

Between winter break and summer vacation, students only spend about 160-180 days in school. I've seen parents struggle with managing their children's time during summer break. This probably disproportionately impacts low-income families who can't afford summer camp or daycare. Many children are also under-nourished during school vacations since they rely on school lunches.

Students would also not un-learn the previous school year's curriculum (research suggests that students get "dumber" over summer break).

In terms of the economic impact of this:

1) If an additional 60 days are added to the school year for students Grade 5 - Grade 12, students could graduate almost 2.5 years earlier, allowing expansion of the school curriculum and adding billions of dollars in productivity and tax income for the government. It would certainly help the fiscal position of Social Security.

2) Teachers would make more money because they work more months. An extra 2 months of work would translate to a 25-40% pay increase.

3) Parents could also work longer hours and stay at home parents would have more of an incentive to find work.

I'm really curious to see what teachers and administrators have to say about this!
