What are your tips for a student on how to phrase questions well/simply if TA has difficulty understanding English?

My experience is that they may know all the words but sometimes someone can parse the grammar/sentence structure differently in their head. There was a situation where I asked a question, and the whole class understood what I asked.

But the TA interpreted the question structure differently and we became very confused.

I'm trying to think of strategies of things to type in the chat during the online class to keep the sentence structure very simple and unambiguous. Not sure, maybe stick to very short sentences? What might you try?
