How does a deeply suburban, high end, private school solve their diversity problem?

As a casual visitor, I visited a private school (k-12) deep in the wealthy suburbs of a major mid-Western city with diversity issues that it are struggling to deal with. It is a day school with a very high tuition, very loyal student and and alumni base in the surrounding communities and the problems of racial and economic diversity seem almost unsolvable. While students can commute from the less affluent, less homogeneous areas , it is quite a long drive and those students are clearly different from the norm.
