Houston ISD is taking storybooks from kindergarteners and calling it the ‘science of reading.’

Kids need phonics to learn to read, but also, access to whole books — not just passages! — of great children’s literature, say experts including author and neuroscientist Maryanne Wolf, education journalist Natalie Wexler and ‘Sold A Story’ podcast host Emily Hanford.
