According to UNCRC, children (those who under 18) should not live in threats and should have the freedom to participanate in politics. And China is one the country signing this treaty.
However, in Hong Kong, children's rights are clearly deprived.
Lots of teenagers participate in the recent social movement and are threaten by police officers, government-supporters, teachers and even family members. Their safety are in danger too as police officers and gangsters may attack them, even if they are totally innocent. Being a teenager is simply a crime too, that police officers would arrest you just because you are a teenager and wear black clothes.
The Hong Kong Education Bureau demands all schools to be neutral, yet it orders schools to play the China national anthem. Teachers are told to say “I don't know” if students ask them questions about politics. Class boycott is banned too. A lot of schools do not allow students to speak out, talk about politics at school, organize rallies, stick memos about politics at school too. Students have no say at school. Adults always ask teenagers to stop care about politics and focus on studying only. Children have no freedom to participate in politics.
We hope all educators could speak out for Hong Kong children and support them.
