I am hoping to get some insight from folks about the two different options I am looking at as a next step for my career.
My background is in early childhood. I have my BA in Psych, minor in Elem Ed. I have worked mostly in private preschools with a break to begin my MLIS and work in some public libraries. I did not complete my Masters - I left when I had my son and also the R.O.I. for library careers and available positions didn't make sense.
I am now back at work as a special education para working with three students who need the extra support. I am enjoying it and thinking about where to go from here.
I am seriously looking at going back to school for a reading specialist degree, but the option of a special education degree is out there too. A special educator can also work on reading in addition to the other subjects. Is it more lucrative to get the SPED degree because it is more flexible than just reading? Or is the job market for reading teachers pretty good? Can I get a reading specific position if I have the SPED degree or do I need the reading specific degree for that?
I am in MA, for reference.
Thank you!
