As a teacher, I believe that grades should reflect students proficiency in the standards being assessed. With that being said, I have a hard time taking points off of an assignment when it is late, as the grade should reflect the standard that is being assessed. By taking points away for being late from a student who showed proficiency on the standard they were assessed does not show consistency in grading. How can I help students understand the importance of turning assignments in on time and still be purposeful and intentional in grading?
