Is it okay for me to know very little about politics?

I am currently a High School student and I openly choose to ignore most political matters. I, often, find myself to do this because in most of the schools I've been to I've been harassed or have seen people harassed because of their viewpoints of the matter, no matter how little or how much they know on the particular candidate or their political group. I, also, get disgusted by a lot of the behavior of people when someone gets elected into office and continuously bash a particular candidate. I know this will leave me to be fairly ignorant in my High School years, but based on who I see a day to day basis and the individuals of my school, I rather just stay ignorant, during my High School years, so I don't get into arguments about politics, as I don't really like arguing people.

Also, whenever I get into cultural or political arguments with someone, I always make it point to try to understand both sides of the argument. I've done this for almost every debate or argument that I've been part of and always try to open my mind to both sides. However, I feel extremely disheartened when I spend my free time trying to understand everyone's point of view, some individuals don't take the time to understand any other point of view besides their own.
