I teach all of the ELL students in my grade level. I have for years and love my ELL elementary kiddos!
I tried to get a TESOL endorsement in undergrad, however I could never enroll in the entry level class. It was a basic college level diversity class and students outside of edu always got enrolled first. Thus, edu majors (like myself), had all of the higher edu classes required but couldn’t enroll in the 101 class.
Does your state require a TESOL endorsement to teach ELL only/support classes?
Do I need to go back to school for ONE entry level class?
(I feel this is back tracking and a waste of my time/money when I have taken all the higher level classes and taught all the ELL students in my grade for 5+ years. I know TESOL endorsements differ by state as well. I just don’t want to pay another few grand for one class when I have all the higher level classes and experience.)
Could I apply for a TESOL job w/o the official paper if I’ve done all the other classes? Especially if I’ve had years of experience?
