What level of effort should parents put in academics of their young kids?

My kid is 5 now. Her school does not teach her reading, writing or math a lot. They do it but in a creative or play and learn way. In the long run, how much of parents involvement in kid's academics matter?

In reality do parents who show lots of involvement and take effort to teach kids different things have successful kids? How has your experience been so far.
