This year I was assigned to work as an “eSchool Proctor.” I was originally hired as a para and had a one-on-one student for years before this. I now oversee 6 periods (approx. 20 students each class). I have my own classroom and I don’t work with any other adult. Our school has an hour lunch for students. During that time, I take my half hour (unpaid lunch) and the other half I work as a hall monitor/security wrangling up stray kids. I don’t get a 15 minute break (that I am pretty sure I am supposed to have). In class...I am taking roll, enrolling the students in the county’s eSchool and FLVS courses, teaching the students how to navigate virtual school, teaching how to upload assignments, filling out assessments on students with IEPs, communicating with the guidance counselors, and the list goes on & on. I am enjoying the fact that I get to use my brain & computer skills. On the downside, I am still getting paid as a para. I was told that “paras oversee eSchool in our county.” Is this the norm elsewhere? Also, the pay scale here is sad. I make around $13 an hour and I get 6 paid hours a day. I can’t even afford to add my kid to my health insurance. I wouldn’t have a check left. Is anyone else in this position?
