Going to college made me realize one thing: the learning approach is severely important in progressing forward and actually passing the course.
Growing up I always loved deconstructing inventions and see how they worked with the limited knowledge I had; curiosity is our very own precious tressure, something that compels us to do things we didn't think we can do or thought about doing before. So why does the education system completely regards that in the most crucial stages growing up?
I failed college, and there is one reason why; Essays.
I think I speak for all when I say Essays is one of the if not The reason we procrastinate and not engage in our school studies, and in fact is the reason this post will most likely be ignored after a glimpse of this huge text blocks I'm writing right now. A lot of times writing Essays require you to research things you will never research ever again, it forces you to push useless knowledge that will only take temporary space in your head and overwhelms, stresses and just brings down your mood.
Now, let's look at a different learning approach.
to be honest I have not researched what this kind of approach is and if it is at all acknowledged in today's education, but I will speak from my experience. Being a foreign student I never was taught to write Essays, research skills, and among other things. So so when I was forced to do all of that all of a sudden it was overwhelming and just made me give up quickly thinking something was wrong with me, but NO! nothing was wrong with me, it's just not how my mind worked. You see, I store newly learnt knowledge not by writing blocks of text and certainly not from researching things just because I have to, but by tackling problems head-on with the little knowledge I have only to solve the problem out of curiosity and come out the other side with newer, expanded fresh knowledge that will forever remain in my head. I did NOT choose to do computer science for the teachers to sit and watch us write Essays in school hours half-dead then going home doing the same. exact. thing. NO! I chose computer science because it gave my mind curiosity to fiddle around with and problems only solved by thinking outside the box. Teachers are meant to be close people that you trust you future with, trust that they will tell you to keep going and encourage rich thoughtful experiences, it's not their fault though it's the educations system at large thinking it's a good idea to squish students to the same kind of box. It's not Industrial Age anymore.
TL;DR: learning by using the limited knowledge to solve things only to come out with more knowledge is my and many people's approach to learning, so why are we still writing useless forgetful Essays?
