Research project

Hi all I'm about to embark on my first research project in my Bachelor of Education Honours. I'm thinking about basing it on the impacts of Literacy and language on Maths learning. This is due to the low pass rates in Maths and Literacy in South Africa and I want to explore the impacts they have on each other. (a Zulu speaking child usually struggles with maths not because of their lack of understanding but rather their lack of understanding the Language of Learning and Teaching).

Does anyone have any recommended research papers I could take a look at to start me off on good footing?

Side note: I do not yet have a supervisor but a lecturer who provided a lot of guidance told me it is a good topic so I want to do enough research to back myself and my decision to follow this topic up.
