Is pursuing an EdD worth the cost? Anybody here gone through an EdD program? What do you do as a job?

I've been admitted into USC's EdD program and giving it serious thought. I guess I just have a few hesitations and want to hear what people generally think..

Why do the developers prefer the ROOM Database over SQlite Database?

Developers prefer the ROOM Database over SQlite Database because the ROOM is a database library that enables people to manage and execute all functionalities, smoothly and easily. It plays a distinctive role in reducing the manual error. Although it is a recent database in the market, it has grabbed the faith of the developers to work with its convenient database management.

Looking to get DC teaching license but I need an additional year on my bachelor's

I have a 3 year bachelor's completed in Australia. However, I need to make it 4 years at a US university (any major) as part of my career path. I've completed all of the other requirements, but every state insists on a 4 year bachelor's.

So, I plan to transfer the credits over and do an additional year of study.

Any suggestions?

Need this book. Can someone borrow it for me ?

Hi,

I really need to get started on my essay but I can't find so many resources. The book I need is hard to find. I emailed our uni library but she said that I need a library card and that my application isn't complete , not sure if she meant application for library card or the uni registration, because in fact I still haven't paid the full fees and the finance team knows about my situation and have extended my payment until Jan. Thing is that I've lost a lot of time, and I have more busy days ahead so I need to get started as soon as possible. I hope someone can help me to borrow it if they have free access through their uni.

Questioning the "goal" of a school

First, I'm talking mostly about university but I think it can apply to college.

Basically recently I wanted to go back and was aiming to do a Bachelor with different field, where you can complete 2 full 30 credits course and fill a remaining 30 credits with smaller programs, but then I came across something that to me made no logical sense and I was wondering if it just because my point of view is tainted or skewed.

I selected a non native language class to start the smaller 30 credits, and then I did and passed the first beginner class, during the summer there were a condensed class, which I had hard time to do. So I started to check and ask question to teacher and such, "if I complete some private course to gather more and come back, what happens?". The teacher answer "I use a test to put you back in the correct level, say you skip the level 2 you then just start again with level 3". I then ask "what happens to the credits from the level 2, its just disappear in thin air?", then teacher: "Basically yes, you havent done the actual class itself and thus you are not granted the credit"

And that where its blew my mind, how does this make any sense? Isnt the idea of a language class to learn the specified language? I just did the level 1, and then skipped the level 2, its doesnt logically follow that I cant have the specified credit to go with it, just because I havent specifically did it IN YOUR SCHOOL. So anything I havent done in a school is worthless? WTF?

It is just the idea that I specifically went through YOUR system and stupidly rigid concept of the structure of YOUR school? and that I didnt gave money to YOU? I'm just shocked and dont know what to say, because to me its just illogical and really doesnt make any sense whatsoever

Difficulty in finding the desire to complete work/attend class

I'm doing a 4-year course in Computer science, and I've found myself starting to really not want to do anything since November, my energy levels have gone down and I've just felt so burnt out because I not only find a lot of difficulty with what I'm learning, but I'm getting so much work that I couldn't even get a job the first 2 months I arrived here with the excessive workload

Now come November with no breaks and I've just run out of wanting to continue doing work, I have a passion for the subject and what I'm learning, I just have such a great deal of difficulty understanding it and taking it all in. I've contacted my course director and they've given me more classes to help me understand but I'm afraid of failing, as I got perfect scores on my exams till now

Does anyone else deal with this and what can I do to save myself from failing everything

Tips on teaching annotation?

Tips for teaching annotation?

Hello! I personally love annotating a new book. I guess that’s a reason why I’m an English teacher. Recently, I have been thinking about ways to make annotation fun for students. I created a blog post sharing some ideas I have and was wondering if you think these are useful? I’m a new teacher so I’m not sure what the best strategies are. If you have some advice and ideas it would mean a lot.

Let me know if you think these strategies are useful and if you have any suggestions or changes I should make!

IS enrollement dropping in your District?

USA - PNW

I live in a high growth area. About ten thousand new housing units have become available in the 18 months or so with a growth rate of 6 - 7 percent. Yet enrollment is dropping at a rate of about four percent. It has gotten to the point that my District is offering cash incentives to those who commit to early retirement.

At first I thought maybe it was due to older people staying in their homes longer and not enough housing turn over. But I don't know.

Anybody seeing a similar trend?

Should I get a minor/double major, or take extra courses that pique my interest?

Hello. I am an undergraduate who will graduate with a degree in Applied Physics in 2023. My degree is specialized into computer science.

Now, I can graduate with a degree in 2022, but I'd like to stay for 4 years so that I can take extra courses.

What is your opinion on me using that extra year to get a minor/major in mathematics, vs using that year to take specific courses in math, computer science, and/or physics that interest me more personally, yet won't contribute to a degree?

Let me know if this subreddit is appropriate for my question.

P.S. I never knew that it is spelled "pique" in "pique my interest"

Hi, I've just finished my A-Levels in the UK (A*AAC) and am considering studying a fashion course in Italy. I don't have the funds for a private university + living costs in a city like Milan without a scholarship. I have looked for Fashion courses (that's including Design, Business and Stylist) in English, but couldn't find any that are not super expensive. Should I be ashamed for being late compared to former classmates?

I graduated HS last year, all of my friends entered college and I couldn't due to my low admision score for college. So I've taken this year to study and hopefully enter next year. If I enter to a bachillerato(usually a programme where studrnts enter if they got a few points less than the limit of admision of the career) (called like that where I live) its a programme that lasts 1 year and if approved, you get transfered to the career by itself for ex: Law (bachillerato of law) I do think my current mock results are leading towards that result and it worries me even more. In that case, I would be entering to study Law early 2023 where my HS would be on the third year already and essentially I would be 21 college freshman graduating from law at 25 compared to my HS at 23. Im a bit insecure about it, just seeing my HS classmates above me, level above. Can someone cheer me up?

I currently go to sixth form and take business and finance and I’m predicted to get Bs/Cs. Unfortunately I only have 2 a levels as I chose them during lockdown and regretted my third choice massively and by the time I dropped it it was too late to pick up another subject. Both my subjects are relevant to the course at uni I want to choose (business and management) however I thought I’d come onto Reddit and ask if anyone has ever been in a similar situation before and I would like To ask if they got into uni or not, cheers.

The Reasons for Schooling - Taylor Gatto

John Taylor Gatto - The Reasons For Schooling (7.05 mins)

Taylor Gatto discusses the philosophy behind the secondary school system in N. American and probably most of the West. He looks at the 6 points as described by Alexander Inglis, who was a key figure in its design at the beginning of the 20th century. "Schooling" is largely about the creation of a governable population, apart from the very elite who are properly educated to run the country.

Im on an ungodly amount of drugs rn, heres why.

Last evening i decided i would go earlier to bed because i have a difficulty trying to get to sleep, i usually think of hate and other edgy things when im starring into the darkness of my absent light ceiling. So i thought it would be a good idea to take flarnax. well earlier that day i also smoked some weed to try and recover my lost emotions, with the benzos this kinda made me in a state where i was so self aware that i couldnt sleep. so i decided to up the fuel by adding another flarnax. This did not work because i couldnt get comfortable, so when my brother got home i asked him if i could maybe get my drugs back (i overdosed before and i gave it to him because blah blah personal things). I thought ketamine would make me calm. It did, but not sleepy. So i thought, why not try another line with angel dust and another benzo that will do it.

It did not.

Now there i was, calm yet awake. Feeling rested but could not sleep. So well i thought why not listen to third eye binaural beats, that seemed to work well. When i woke up i still wanted to go to school because ive been skipping that lately because of my lifestyle choices, so i thought why not microdose a-php and ethyl pentedrone to regain some focus. However these are not amfetamines, they are closer to flakka. But i figured "i dont have anhthing else rn". On second thought maybe i shouldnt have sprinkelt it with angel dust. Then i drove pretty damn fast on my bike to school hoping i will get a clearer sharper head situation soon. When i entered class it went decent untill i saw i had two teachers who looked exactly alike and sound wasnt manually filtered anymore. Luckily i could still comprehend everything, it was just highly annoying. I knew a man with autism once who also couldnt filter sound. So i thought shit, maybe i have autism. I did get my second vaccine tho THUMTHUMthum (this was not a shout to make kings fly but a sound effect representing drama) please dont ignore all the godforbidden substances i named before, and merely focus on the vaccine. one does not simply inject autism. Funny enough i saw a "vaxxine is poison" sticker next to a can of ghb once.

But back to the story.

It turns out that my class is so obnoxious that a 220lbs bodybuilder on flakka-like substances benzo's, pcp and ketamine, Doesnt even get noticed. Also this teacher was like the reincarnation of Hitler normally, how in the world is she the exact opposite today. Either its my aura, or its just female psychology.

Honestly i think shes just trying to reach these annoying kidzzz, but how?

Im fine btw

Roles of a QA manager

Hi all,

I recently became the QA manager in a tuition centre as it was something that was needed to improve the quality of teaching along with student satisfaction and improve efficiency. However, I am not familiar with the role and what tasks need to be completed to 'live' up to the role. I have so far conducted questionnaires to students and teachers to get a general idea of where we are at the moment along with sitting in some classes to monitor student engagement and teacher performance.

Is there anything else I should take note of or conduct as a QA manager in a teaching/learning environment? Thanks in advance.

Lecture invitation - the Cosmic Chemistry Setr

We are pleased to invite you to our lecture on ”The Cosmic Chemistry Set” by Dr Seyed Abdolreza Sadjadi - you will have a chance to learn how the matter that makes up both us and the rest of our universe was created and transformed through the awesome power of stars, nuclear processes and chemical reactions.

Dr Sadjadi will explain where the basic and tiny building blocks of most matter - atoms - come from, how we came to know how they exist, and how studying space helps us to understand the matter on earth, and also how our knowledge of chemistry on earth can help us understand the wider universe. Usually, chemistry is seen as a very practical and down-to-earth subject that deals with creating useful materials, drugs, foods, and metals. We hope this lecture allows our audience members to see the larger picture: through the investigation of material remnants of the big bang and early stars, we can look back in time and space.

This lecture will take place on the 27th on November at 12:00 PM UK time and will be presented in English with Arabic subtitles.

I’m a straight A student but may not graduate

Hey guys I really just need to rant. So in order to graduate at my high school you need to complete a graduation project. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with it and dates have been pushed back before. The project coordinator, notorious for being mean, tells me that I can hand in my hours when I’m done with them. My presentation is in later December. She stopped me in the hallway and told me that I can’t present because I don’t have my hours in. I told her that I’d have them done over this break and hand them in when we return. This was always the plan for me, since she told me I can hand them in once completed. Well, apparently now it’s not the case. I’m a big procrastinator and I feel horrible but i feel like it’s also her fault as well. She’s going to see if I can present a later date but seniors need to present before a certain time so I don’t even know if I can graduate now. I feel like a horrible stupid person, I should have gotten it done way before this but I didn’t. Then again, the plan was to use the break and then give it to her, which I thought I could do given her previous statement. Am I a big fuck up?

Academically Unaccomplished

I’m about to graduate college in a month in the US with a Bachelors of Science In Interdisciplinary, Chemistry and Biology focus. My major is the result of being rejected twice, once from a Medical Lab Science program and once from a Medical Imaging program. I have a 3.0 GPA but honestly did the bare minimum throughout my academic career, most of my good grades came from lower level courses. A lot of my classes gave out attendance and homework points that pushed me to either pass or get an A. I didn’t party in college, I worked a little bit but not enough to excuse my poor academic performance. I do have health issues that affected me in the first year. Even though I am about to graduate I still feel unaccomplished academically. I am aware that having a degree or not having a degree won’t determine how successful I will be in life but I feel as if I have a lot more inside of me. I have accomplished little in my life, albeit I am 22. Sure having a college education makes me more marketable but to me it feels worthless and that time went to nothing. I am upset with myself now more than ever that I never put in the effort. I am very knowledgeable about the subjects even though my grades didn’t prove it. I couldn’t care less about impressing anyone, it’s about being proud of myself.

Does anyone have any advice? Thanks

I’m planning to attend a university abroad (I live in Southeast Asia) and hopefully permanently live there once I’m done with my studies. Currently I’m looking at Switzerland, France, Germany and Japan. Unfortunately Im a little indecisive so I don’t know which country I should aim for. What are your opinions these countries? Friend of mine's Common App

A friend of mine, for his Common App essay wants to write about how he used to be really depressed but since then has turned around and put alot of effort into making his life better, and attributes alot to the inspiration and encouragement provided from his girlfriend. I'm a little worried that college admissions counselors won't care and will think it's a high-school love story type thing. What do you guys think?

Returning to College - Best route?

Long story short, I went to college without knowing what I wanted to do. Spent time going from class to class, feeling like nothing really scratched the itch. Did a lot of things I shouldn't have done in terms of skipping classe/overall just being bad at the academic process. Eventually I just picked Communications so I could graduate and get out of school to explore the world.

Fast Forward 5/6 years and I've decided that I want to return to school, I want to learn something specific (Accounting) and I know what I want to do. Is it better for me to return to the school I graduated at previously and attempt to earn my Masters in the field I desire or would it better to get a BA in the same study? I've been working in a few different fields. Most recently, i've begun working in a family start-up and I've been trying to do the procurement/document management/financial side of the house but would really love to learn the academics behind a lot of what is going on so I don't need to constantly look things up for even the "basics."

Is it better to return to the school I graduated from or would it better to start over at a new school? Maybe even a community college?

Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

Help Me Choose: Marketing or Advertising Management?

Help Me Choose: Marketing or Advertising Management?

I’m an incoming college freshmen currently applying and I need to choose a course that is best for me, I was thinking of these two since I have an interest in copywriting, but I’m not sure if it is true passion enough for me to invest on a whole course. I think marketing is more broad and practical since it’s also going to tackle advertising as well, and will have more job opportunities since it is not just advertising but the advertising course has actual copywriting classes and has more subjects I feel I will enjoy more (like art direction and creative managemen) but may just be an infatuation/phase, as this has happened before like I liked architecture till I found out the course is too hard for what it offers, or fashion design. Which should I choose, should I just choose marketing since it seems to pay more and we might still learn about copywriting in advertising classes and then just teach myself copywriting online, or take the risk and go specialized in advertising management (the subjects are lil bit more interesting to see), but I’m worried that this interest might just be a phase. Is there a way to study the copywriting classes and other interested subjects as electives with a marketing management degree? And yes, I know about experience and am currently finding a way for internship soon, which of the two should I choose? Big help thx.

Thoughts on education including classes (or a general teaching architecture/methodology) on how to deal with and ultimately try to resolve all kinds of conflict?

hey so first off, i have no idea where this post would be better served than here, i was thinking /r/science but that felt less accurate than /r/education. SO:

i realized that schools (at least the ones i ended up in in the usa or any of the ones i've otherwise heard of in depth) never really dealt with conflict in an educational capacity despite conflict being a nonstop theme in all of human society. at first i'd think that it's something that should be taken care of at home buuut... that's just not happening for the most part. the reality there is they only get taught that whatever the parents are ok with is what everyone is ok with, which can work in some family settings but others nowhere near as well.

in essence, this would be something that would be formally taught that is not simply smashing information into students' brains, but rather teaching them how to recognize, approach, and resolve conflict. take the scientific method, for example. that is taught alongside science classes (usually) and rather than being simply a factoid is in actuality a methodology for figuring things out that students can (and should) make use of in other aspects of their life beyond science. in the same way, this (proposed?) class would teach ways to deal with conflict both internally and externally as well as potentially how to recognize conflict in other people (basically taught-empathy as part of said class-thing).

there's a bunch of potential outcomes of people as is, those that fear and avoid conflict, those that spread/instigate conflict, those totally apathetic to it, even those totally untouched by or fully immersed in conflict, and many more i can't currently think of or don't even know. these situations and more would be the kind of things said class would work to mitigate (and while they're at it, teaching empathy and practical psychology) and result in students who at the very least know how to deal with conflict in an appropriate manner while also how to avoid creating unnecessary conflict but understanding that creating conflict can be totally healthy (such as dealing with those creating unnecessary conflict).

bullying, as an example, where the bully would be taught why not to do such shit and/or otherwise how to deal with emotions/situations which result in that kind of behavior (and in the cases where the bullied may need help in this, how to deal with bullies when all else fails.) personally, i'm of the opinion that violence may be used to defend oneself and others, but afaik schools in the usa fervently forbid that and i don't really know where the rest of society stands on that. of course, i also know that bullies are also usually cowards and sometimes a well placed retort or two can get them to fuck off far better than a punch to the nose. so, while i personally think they shouldn't take that off of the table as completely as it currently is, violence should not be the kind of action such a class should lead with when dealing with conflict (but, again, that sometimes violence is totally justified in response to certain actions).

so, yeah. what do you peeps of /r/education think of this kind of education? cuz i know there's a void for this kind of methodology to be taught to people (at the very least in the usa) but idk if doing it in school as a formal class is the way to go.

Should California end its mask mandate in schools with vaccines being available to everyone now?

Does California really need to keep mask mandates going anymore now? Almost all of the teaching and education staff are vaccinated. All students can now get the vaccine and a booster. Is there really a need for this anymore? Shouldn't the public be responsible for its own health now?

I understand it will take time for a size able portion of students to be vaccinated. The winter is going to create surges, but very small compared to the rest of the nation.

I know I'm going to get people on here from Michigan, Iowa, Texas, and elsewhere panicked about their own winter surges. The vaccination rate in California is sizably greater. I'm not worried about California. I'm glad I'm not in the other states though that might need it.

I completed my state's HS requirements but my private school refuses to let me graduate a semester early. What can I do?

I really need to graduate early because i need to get a second job to save up to move out when im 18. I've been doing dual enrollment since i was 15 so i already spend a few hours in college everyday and i want to also enroll as a full time college student for next semester. i go to an all girls religious private school with only 15 girls in the entire school and its really depressing. i need to get out of there, but my principal wont let because the school graduate requirements are 4 years of highschool.

Would it be possible to go to my local public school and ask to get my diploma there? Or do I have to go to the school to be able to do it?

I need to find a way to do this. highschool is a waste of time for me and my school isnt going to get me anywhere. im sick of taking 5 religious classes and learning absolutely nothing in my general studies and being stuck with a bunch of freshmen in all my classes because my school is so incompetent.

how can i get my general highschool diploma without needing the help of my private school? Theyre literally going bankrupt and they probably want me to stay for the money.

I am a student in college level and I just can't understand chemistry anymore. When i study for a chemistry test, i always think im okay and understand overall. But when there is an exam, i just seem to not understand a single thing and I am not sure what to answer. The subject has always been my weakness but with this new teacher(plus we are his first class ever), I am lost. I don't know what to do anymore and I feel stupid. Are there any really good ressources? I am basically teaching myself chemistry with textbooks. Though, I also don't think it's the teacher because other students seem to understand well.

Covid Quarantines at Schools & Impoverished Families

Hey, all. I want to ask someone who has a better understanding of education and health policy and the legality of childcare because I am just now beginning to research it:

How is it even LEGAL and ALLOWED that schools in low income communities can just say "hey, we're going virtual now, so have your kid on Google Classroom tomorrow morning at 9"?

How are school districts allowed to just cancel school on a dime without legally needing to work in partnership with daycares, healthcare locations, or food banks/housing assistance?

How are we allowed to do this to families who now have to decide between getting their kid on virtual school or keeping their heat or electric on? Or being able to afford Thanksgiving dinner, or Christmas presents? I am so fired up, and I feel so helpless. I want to help and I have no idea what to do.

Story time:
I am a kindergarten teacher in Chicago, in a charter school network on the south side. We had to switch from in-person to remote school on Thursday; parents were given less than 24 hours' notice to get childcare. A single mom was crying at computer pick-up, saying she can't miss 14 days of work to quarantine and daycare won't take her daughter because she has been exposed. She looked absolutely broken and said she didn't even want the computer and she may have to unenroll her kid, I went to tell my principal, and she coldly said: "I sympathize as a working mom, too, but she needs to get her vaccinated." Even my kids who have gotten their FIRST shot have to quarantine. This solves NOTHING of this mom's current problem. Another admin said, "well, most of quarantine is actually during Thanksgiving break, so she needed to have a childcare plan in place anyway." --- Well, no, because that daycare won't take her anymore, having been exposed. I am just at a complete loss for words.

Can someone explain the legality of all of this? Obviously, my own admin won't. Am I just pie in the sky delusional about what schools owe their communities? I am aware that school isn't daycare, but in our country -- it sort of is at this point. It IS a given, secure, often FREE place to put your kid while working class parents struggle to make ends meet. A place that you know they are fed, warm, and safe.

Is this right?

I got a call from the principal today and was told that my 7 year old son is not to come back tomorrow. He’s not being suspended, she just said he needs to stay home tomorrow. He has recently been diagnosed with adhd and started medication. Today he pushed another boy on the playground because two girls told him to “get” the other boy. And after that incident he refused to do his work in class and was defiant the remainder of the day. It’s not in his character so I’m trying to figure out if it is related to a side effect of his medication in which the dosage was increased this week and agression can be a side effect. No, I’m not making excuses and we have discussed and he realizes this behavior is not acceptable. However, I do not agree with her decision to make him miss a day of school because of this. Is he not allowed to have a bad day and come back and try again the next day? I’m just curious what is keeping me from sending him to school since there isn’t official paperwork suspeding him rather just her telling me to keep him home?

Novel ways to attract students?

the last two years we experienced a rapid decline in the number of students enrolling in our school... Turns out, the board 'forgot' to use the communications and PR department, they spent two years working at home but kinda sorta forgot that our core business is teaching children...

So at the moment we are trying our hardest to lure children to at least come and take a look at our school, come to our 'open days'...

A huge competitor in our area with around three times as many teachers, has all these novel ways to attract potential kids. One of these ways is a flashy website (and we have begged PR and communications to start doing their job!) but yesterday we spotted a QR code. After scanning this, parents are redirected to... Guestplan, a website primarily intended for restaurants to make an appointment. The school uses it to offer parents 'on the spot' guided tours.

It is ideas like this that might help getting parents into school.

Do you have novel ways of attracting parents to visit your school and present your school to them?

Help for a mental health club that wants to change school policy

I am a sophomore at a conservative/prestigious high school. I want to major in education in the future (maybe) and since I struggle a lot with mental health, I started a school program that wants to focus on educational policy and mental health. Our end goal is to improve student mental health. However, I’ve been noticing many flaws with the educational system that does not accommodate for students with mental health struggles at all. Schools are predominantly pushing students as Ivy League robots and just want to profit. It’s hard to make administrators hear us and care about us. It’s even controversial in my school to directly tell teachers that we are people before we are students. Why are we still making students do two hours of homework after school? Most students also have extracurriculars, and there is no way of persuading admins because any improvement in student mental health might risk lower grades and academic performance. Some educational policies are hard to change, like pushing back school start times and getting rid of standardized testing. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions or any thoughts about our program. Since many people here are teachers or edu majors, I want to know your take on this. Here are more details:

Phase 1: Communication with teachers, establishing PA Program, doing preliminary research Phase 2: Carrying out and delegating tasks within student body, starting change Phase 3: Get data and speak to school board about making changes AND creating solutions

What is the PA Mental Health Program: we want to be the bridge between the school and the students and essentially mandate actions for better mental health and we can control/speak to both the school and the students

We want to set up support programs and essentially get the school board to think from the students perspective what do you think?

One of my assignments is to interview a credentialed teacher about some very basic questions-why you got into teaching, a meaningful experience, etc. If you're a current (or recently retired) credentialed teacher in the US and have 5-10 minutes to answer 5 questions over email, it would be a huge favor for me. For seasoned middle school teachers, how have your 6th graders been this year?

Our sixth graders this year have been absolute savages. There interpersonal skills are the worst I've ever seen from a whole grade like this. They have no concept of basic class norms. Whenever they have something to say to the teacher, they just get up from their desks and walk right up to the teacher and start talking. Some of them are absolutely viscous towards each other in group work. And others have absolutely no tolerance for conflict and shut down completely.

I'm not really a sixth grade teacher, so I wasn't sure how much of this is just normal 6th grade stuff. But it seems like every one of their teachers is in agreement, and some of them have been working with 6th graders for over a decade. Someone recently mentioned that they spoke to a principal in another district and they were experiencing the same thing.

So I'm wondering if this is a bigger trend for the kids that were finishing elementary school in the peak of covid. Anyone else?

Article:

Connecticut parents say that their elementary school-aged children are learning about transgenderism — and a parents group notes that the district is refusing to allow parents to opt out of the lessons.

What are the details?

According to a Tuesday report from the Daily Caller, books titled "Introducing Teddy" and more are being circulated in the curriculum.

"Introducing Teddy," the outlet reported, is about a teddy bear that was created as a male teddy bear, but insisted it was a female teddy bear. The book, according to the report, is geared toward kindergarteners.

Administrators at West Hartford Public Schools told parents that their children would not be able to opt out from the materials, according to a recent release from Parents Defending Education. A lesson sheet shared with the outlet featured a synopsis of "Introducing Teddy" and the following description:

Errol and his teddy, Thomas, are best friends who do everything together. Whether it's riding a bike, playing in the tree house, having a tea party, or all of the above, every day holds something fun to do. One sunny day, Errol finds that Thomas is sad, even when they are playing in their favorite ways. Errol can't figure out why, until Thomas finally tells Errol what the teddy has been afraid to say: "In my heart, I've always known that I'm a girl teddy, not a boy teddy. I wish my name was Tilly, not Thomas." And Errol says, "I don't care if you're a girl teddy or a boy teddy! What matters is that you are my friend." "Jacob's New Dress" features a story of a boy who is working hard to convince his parents to let him wear "girl clothes."

Don't miss out on content from Dave Rubin free of big tech censorship. Listen to The Rubin Report now. Another book, "Are You a Boy or a Girl?" follows the story of Tiny, a child who uses they/them pronouns and refuses to tell other children whether he or she is a boy or girl.

All of the above books are specifically tailored for the use in teaching kindergarten and first-grade students.

The controversial book "I Am Jazz" tells the story of transgender reality star Jazz Jennings, who was born a male but now identifies as female after gender reassignment surgery, and a fifth-grade level book "It Feels Good to Be Yourself" details the experience of non-binary children and addresses gender identity.

A description says, "Some people are boys. Some people are girls. Some people are both, neither, or somewhere in between. This sweet, straightforward exploration of gender identity will give children a fuller understanding of themselves and others. With child-friendly language and vibrant art, It Feels Good to Be Yourself provides young readers and parents alike with the vocabulary to discuss this important topic with sensitivity."

What else?

Erika Sanzi of Parents Defending Education told the outlet that the materials will likely only serve to confuse young children.

“Teaching elementary students that their parents assigned them their gender at birth but may have gotten it wrong because anatomy is separate from gender is an obscene example of adults using ideology to confuse and manipulate children's minds," Sanzi said. “The fact that parents are not permitted to opt their children out of this content based in gender ideology is so sinister, it's hard to believe it's even legal."

The report noted that West Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Tom Moore did not respond to the outlet's request for comment.

Cheapest education degree online?

I’ve been thinking a lot about becoming an art teacher ever since I was really young. But I can’t seem to find any online school that offers at a reasonable price. I don’t want to drown in student loans. And I know it’s super hard to come across a decent cost school. I just want basic education degree to become an art teacher in a middle school. Where do I start, what is a reasonably priced online college. Thanks in advance.

Hoping for Feedback RE: online communication platforms for schools

I'm currently doing a research project on the advantages / disadvantages of various different communication platforms within the post secondary educational setting. I've chosen to focus on why colleges and universities should consider adopting Discord as a preferred communication technology, especially within the scope of the Covid-19 pandemic and most classes going online.

I was hoping to get some first hand opinions from folks on here.

Do you think that Discord is a communication platform that post-secondary educational institutions should adopt for internal and external communication between students, faculty and administrators? If the answer is yes, why do you think Discord is a good (or the best) option for the internal and external communication needs of colleges and universities? If the answer is no, then why not? What do you see as the biggest shortcomings of the platform being used for this purpose?

Do you feel that Discord is a better option for facilitating online classrooms than other commonly used platforms (such as Zoom, Big Blue Button, Blackboard, Microsoft Teams, etc.)?
If your answer is yes, what is your reasoning? If no, then why not?

I understand that this is a Zoom related Reddit Server but, I thought that folks here would be able to provide invaluable input.

If you have any resources, that support your opinion or that help provide a basis for your opinion, and you are willing to share links to those resources or the titles so I can search for them, that would be really useful for further research.

Thank you for your time and consideration! I really appreciate it!

Principal sends my stressed senior class over the edge with email

Seniors,

I looked over the transcripts. Your grades are fine, but I have NEVER seen such weak course work in the past 10 years. Moreover, class participation and effort are also not at its optimal. I want you to know that you might have to be mentally prepared that you are not going to get into the competitive colleges of your choice. Also, compromising attitude is not beneficial for you in the short and long term. Many of you are not working to your potential. The only transcripts that are looking adequate are Jessica,Anna, Justin,Kyler, and Timothy.

I am disappointed with the slackness of things. I see your lack of caring and commitment as seniors to school cleanliness, spirit, sisterhood, communication, and overall leadership.

Those applying for UCs and CSUs should heightened your gears, since the deadline is looming near.

If I have overlooked your contributions and hard work, please disregard this email. If you wish to respond, please talk to me instead of an email.

Topics you want to see in an educational game

Hello everyone!

I'm planning to create a small educational game for a university project and am interested in seeing what topics/concepts people want learn in a fun way.

I'm trying to come at it from a video game side and incorporate education into it so as to make the game more engaging and fun.

What topics do you want to see in an educational game (eg: space, history, etc.)? And if you have some ideas on how you want them to be implemented, please feel free to share!

Thank you in advance!

How To Write A Visual Analysis Essay?

Visual analysis essays are fairly common among students nowadays for their English studies. For example, in such essays, you may be asked to critique paintings, advertising, or other works of art, such as a painting or a photograph. However, for individuals studying the arts and art history, competent visual analysis essay writing is exceptionally vital. It allows kids to show off their writing abilities while also learning more about art, different artists, and their styles. Although teachers frequently identify significant requirements when assigning these assignments, we've compiled a collection of beneficial suggestions and suggestions to assist you in completing a visual analysis fast and successfully.

What Is Visual Analysis?

Every image conveys a message or a claim. These assertions are usually made freely in advertisements, and the assertion is even stated in the text. Although works of art are often more subtle, they generally persuade the observer to believe something. What methods do you use to examine visual images? Below are the points:

  1. The artist's intention.
  2. The target audience.
  3. The composition of the image.
  4. The historical context in which it was created and in which it is currently being examined.

Visual Analysis Essay Outline Example

Introduction: Inform the audience on the fundamentals of the art. Use one of the following approaches to pique the reader's attention in the image:

  • Describe the image in rich detail so that the reader can visualize it.
  • Please Describe how the image was made.
  • Describe the artist's purpose.
  • Provide intriguing information about the work of art or the artist.
  • Discuss a debate or misunderstanding regarding the work.

Thesis: In your thesis, you will explain the significance of this photograph.Body: Three or more primary concepts that support your meaning should be supported by your thesis. Use the pre-writing sections to generate ideas by asking questions. Conclusion: Rather than simply restating your premise, try to wrap it up. Give a final intriguing fact or use one of the following ideas:

  • Compare how the painting was received by the audience when it was first shown to your own opinions or how people today would perceive the painting.
  • Consider what the artist would think about how his work has been received over time.
  • Make a comparison between this image and others that are comparable.
  • Suggest how this piece of art might fit into an artist's or a company's ad campaign.

How To Analyze A Painting?

Do you not have any artistic experience? Do not be concerned. You most likely know a lot more than you think. Every day, modern individuals are bombarded with pictures.Anyone Can analyze images: Even if you don't understand the language used to describe how people evaluate the art, you'll recognize many of the techniques used by artists to elicit a response from the viewer, such as making the essential images larger and lighter, and the less significant ones in the background or fading darker. You may also quickly discern symbolic hues, such as red, which denotes an emergency, blood, or danger; green denotes safety and proximity to nature; and blue, which means calm and relaxation.Begin by taking a close look: Most of the Visual Study Papers will involve a vibrant and colorful description of the image and a visual rhetorical analysis of the image to show how the artist put the picture together to generate meaning. Describe the image you see using the terms listed in the table below.Have Faith in Your Own: You could wish to analyze the image first before researching its history so that you may write down your opinions without being influenced by others.Use the chart and questions: Begin your visual analysis description by obtaining a high-quality copy of the image and thoroughly studying it. Answer the essential questions on the chart below to help you see the distinct visual features.

How To Write A Visual Analysis Essay?

Outlining is the most effective way to broaden the scope of visual inquiry papers. It's a summary of your essay as well as the main finding of your research. Organize All of the tidbits of information you acquired during the examination in an outline. As a result, you'll be able to double-check the combined details and determine whether each one is relevant to your post. It is unnecessary to outline everything you will discuss in your paper; only include the essential points. To essay help, follow this basic structure:• A brief introductionYou should explain the context of your claim in this section. You can write a few lines about a craftsman in the initial sentences, the work under investigation, and a fascinating detail you'd like to include.• Main bodyIn this section, you'll introduce your paper's core arguments and ideas. However, keep in mind that it's critical to separate your thoughts by depicting them in different parts. The complexity of the examination and the educator's requirements will determine whether sections of the body text are included. You'll write topic sentences that summarize your ideas to show the start of the next paragraph in the outline.• ConclusionIf you want to repeat the thesis statement's main argument in this section, you should back it up with your paper's main points. It should explain the entire purpose of your visual analysis, so try to impress a reader and get their belief in your arguments.

Steps To Getting Your Writing Process Organized

The following steps will assist you in the writing process, depending on the objective of the visual research piece.

  • Observe your object.

It is preferable to examine a work of art based on your perceptions. If you have access to a gallery where your preferred handicraft is on exhibit, this variety can be quite valuable for research.

  • Explain your main point.

Explain your thesis considering the perceptions. To construct a solid explanatory argument, you may need to conduct some basic research.

  • Do some background research.

To construct a convincing argument, it is critical to perform research. Remember that accurate craftsmanship analysis necessitates an understanding of the craftsman's style and background and the societal context in which a work of art was created.

  • Make a thorough outline.

By establishing the outline of your future paper, you can organize and combine the information you've obtained.

  • Create the initial draft.

Make your first draught using an outline. Now, instead of producing in a particular style, concentrate on the content.

  • Make your final essay look professional.

Papers on visual analysis should be well formatted. When choosing a formatting style, keep your educator's requirements in mind. Make sure you're up to date on the latest formatting guidelines, as failure to do so can result in copyright infringement accusations. On the bottom lineOne of the most important characteristics of a visual analysis essay is its conciseness and precision. However, if your essay requires the opposite, you must follow the guidelines. A visual analysis essay structure includes an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, just like any other essay style.

All A’s but low GPA, will this hurt me?

From freshman to junior year, my gpa was a 3.957 (weighted). I had all A’s except a B in freshman English and a B + in Algebra 2 accelerated. The rest were A’s. This was because I only took 1 AP class. So I feel like I am underrepresented in my GPA category. As of senior year, I am taking 2 AP classes and an advanced course, and my gpa in this first semester is a 4.5!! But sadly, colleges I applied to will not see this. My ACT was a 29, so it’s nothing special. How much will this hurt me in the college admissions process?

Middle School Coach that still has the kids "pick teams."

My 8th-grade son loves basketball and just made the basketball team. He is the new kid. After the first day of practice, he came home and said "I'm the worst kid on the team." Turns out he was picked last for a scrimmage. I was shocked that this older coach still did the whole "picking teams" routine. There's been a lot of research on this topic, and national organizations for physical education teachers have discouraged this practice for at least a decade. Studies show that "picking teams" has long-term consequences on self-esteem and future physical health.

I need guidance on what to do next. I don't want my son to quit a sport he loves, but I don't want him to endure a popularity contest daily in order to do it. Especially one that has lasting and long-term consequences. Could I get some guidance on what I should do next?

Why does there need to be so much compulsory Education?

My teachers would say English and Math grade C is the minimum to be employable. That way less than the 10+ subjects learned in school . A person can probably do most work just from being able bodied, being able to follow basic instructions and being able to count change.

Maths and English grade C and you can make the argument for some of the sciences.

If anyone wants to study more, they can go to college and study it.

Do we really need to make people study home economics, drama, art, history (inevitably from a biased and eurocentric perspective) , chemistry, wood work, PE , textiles, and geography?

I never understood why all that's necessary. People dont learn in depth when they're carted off to the next subject every next hour and they dont behave well when they're made to learn something.

A quarter of American students already drop out of the current system, I don't see how this can be worse. It occurs to me that all these subjects are being taught in compulsory education more for corporate interests than anything else. The companies that write the tests, the books, the produce the food and so on.

Hypothetical private school question [USA]

Let's say a private school with a very high teacher:student ratio and very good teachers was able to educate 90% of students to a level significantly above expected grade level in each subject. For example, understanding multivariate calculus in 10th grade. Let's say the school was run on a personalized scale so it wouldn't make sense to evaluate students against each other. In these circumstances, would it permissible to give 90% of students As on report cards? Alternatively, would it be permissible to eliminate grades and have students only be judged by nationwide standardized tests for college admissions purposes?

Quizizz is one of the most reliably unreliable educational platforms I've worked with. What have been your experiences? Mostly a rant, though

This year I'm teaching first grade online for the first semester, lots of challenges there. I came across Quizizz, as a way for kids to do some independent practice. What attracted me was you could record audio, which is great if teaching little ones.
The problem is, the second week I used this service as a paid subscriber, the audio began recording at double speed and then playing back at half speed. I emailed them, they fixed it.
Every week, Quizizz breaks something new. I email them, work around it, triple my work to do so, they fix it, then something new breaks.

Now their question bank system has broken. Rather than 20 questions from a random question bank of 80, the kids got stuck with all 80 questions. A parent complained, "Are you crazy, 80 questions?"
Has anyone had good experiences working online, any platforms that actually work as advertised?

For some background I am in my mid-twenties, have about 2 years of in-classroom experience (student teaching and assistant teaching), and many years experience working with elementary, middle, and high school students.

Looking for innovative and efficient ways to teach ICT

Hello,

I am a middle school ICT teacher. I try to read and implement as many interactive/immersive methods as possible.

-I am trying to wear costumes like a cliche hackers(sunglasses, hoodie, etc) or a cliche director(foulard, flower, etc.) to draw my student's attention.
-While explaining the task manager, i get some of my students in front of everyone and make one of them like a traffic police and so on.

I recommend all my colleagues to take a look at cospaces, assemblr and lego studio. I have got some more but cant remember now.

Please share your experiences with us.
