I recently attended a parent – teacher meeting. One parent had a complaint about a child being being depressed as the marksheet was put up on the softboard of the class. The child had not performed well and was now feeling ashamed and didn’t want to face her classmates. So the solution suggested by the parent that marksheets should not be put on the softboard. And surprise – school agreed! In another case the students were taken on picnic. Their stay was in 4 star hotel but a student did not get the specific item requested by him for breakfast and the buffet breakfast meant for the school group did not have it. The student refused to eat. At last, special breakfast was made for him and he calmed down. In the first case, as an adult, the student will most probably break under little bit of pressure or stress, blaming everyone else other than herself for problems in her life. She might end up being a weak minded person. In the second case, the kid might end up becoming very stubborn, arrogant, unadjusted and God knows what other traits. Today schooling has become all about focusing on or telling about positive things about children. But then when are they going to know about or learn how to face their shortcomings? Imagine a world full of such adults!!! And worst - we will be the ones responsible for making it. Children follow our behaviour. Before it’s too late, we need to incorporate spiritual aspects to education, maybe yoga, teachings, community service, etc. I don’t know how much time will take to repair the damage done but we can atleast ensure the coming generations don’t become delicate darlings. I want a healthy world for me and you. What about you? Sadh-guru says: Education need not only be a tool for survival but for enhancing perception. Children must blossom and flower into great human beings.
