Maryland is one of the wealthiest states in the country, and its citizens nearly always vote for tax increases or greater spending for its public K-12 schools, yet teachers are still feeling the pinch.
Maryland is one of the few states which runs its public schools on a County system. This means there are many schools in each county wide system. Baltimore City too has its own large school system. Each county, and the Baltimore city, get state funds for new buildings and large scale renovations. Yes pay for teachers, esp in the large DC- Baltimore area counties are paid more, but cost of living is very high.
