CUNY Internationalist Clubs: For Mass Student/Labor Action Against U.S./Israel War and NYPD Repression

Spartacist League: A Weird and Desperate Frenzy

By CUNY Internationalist Clubs

In the early hours of May 1, hundreds of students at Columbia University and the City University of New York (CUNY) were arrested, some beaten and brutalized, by the notorious New York Police Department (NYPD), as university administrations called in the cops to “sweep” campus Gaza solidarity encampments. Within hours, the CUNY Internationalist Clubs (four of whose activists were among those arrested) called an emergency speak-out at Hunter College that drew almost 200 students and faculty to protest the police/CUNY repression. In the aftermath, the Spartacist League put out a string of fliers calling to “Strike the Campus!” When there was no walkout, it tried to explain away the failure to suck a “strike” out of its thumb by bizarrely trying to scapegoat the Internationalist Club, even though the CUNY Internationalists spoke at every meeting the SL called. While the used-to-be-revolutionary group going under the misnomer Spartacist takes refuge in gimmickry, flitting erratically from one stunt to the next, the Internationalists and class-struggle activists in the faculty/staff union fight for mass CUNY- and city-wide union/student march against the repression and witch hunts targeting pro-Palestinian protesters.
