My school threatened court over missing days of school, is this a thing they are allowed to do?

Last year was the first time in all my years of school that I constantly stayed home out of anxiety. Some days I’d wake up crying and shaking and I didn’t want to go because of peers and teachers treating me badly. I made the mistake of never turning in any absence notes, however. It was stupid, but I didn’t know where to take them too, I was too anxious to ask the teachers, and I didn’t think it mattered that much. But I learned after that school year ended that my parents were sent a note threatening to send them to court if I keep missing days of school. I know it’s my fault, but like- Court ? I’m genuinely asking if this is a thing schools do. Threatening court over a kid missing days of school. I’ve never heard this before. In times when students fight or someone is bullied, the school never threatens those students’ parents with court, do they? Students normally have a number of days they are allowed to miss before it’s too much, but I didn’t go over that number. I still had good grades in my classes and I’ve never been a student who acts out or gets into trouble. I want to know if there’s something I can do about this. I don’t want my parents to go to court and get in trouble, but there’s days I go to school and break down crying and almost pass out during anxiety attacks. Is there someone I have to talk to? Do I need to be diagnosed by a doctor so the school will be more lenient? Should I talk to my counselor and try to figure out a solution? Or will the school just not care at all?
