Same student constantly asking questions that have already been answered

Hi all, I have a question about a situation that I feel is taking away from my learning experience. I am taking an intro Spanish course in college and there is a student in my class who really seems to be struggling with the material. We probably spend about a quarter of each class listening to him ask questions and hearing the professor’s answers.

The problem is that he asks questions about what has just been explained as if it is a completely new concept that he’s never heard of, or a core concept that we learned several weeks ago and have already been tested on etc. So the professor is just re-explaining material to one student who doesn’t get it while the rest of us patiently wait to move on to the new material we need to learn.

What ends up happening is that we run out of time and our professor skips many slides at the end of her presentation. Today we skipped two group activities where we would have practiced speaking to each other, which is a really important part of learning a language.

It seems like he should take better notes, study the textbook more thoroughly, and possibly seek tutoring based on his learning style, but I assume that the professor hasn’t talked to him about this as it keeps happening. I’m not sure what to do here as it doesn’t seem my place to say anything to him.

Would it be inappropriate for me to talk with my professor about it? I don’t want to sound mean or single him out, but it’s frustrating and every time he speaks up I can’t help but think “here we go again”, and I doubt I’m the only one who feels this way. We are fully online this semester so all classes and communication is done via zoom or email.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.
