ParentVue issue when moving states

This seems like the best place to post but open to posting in a different group if you have a suggestion

OK, so I moved from Georgia to Virginia. In Georgia the school use parentvue. The Virginia county also uses it but I cannot set up an account because it says I already have one with my email. Anyone know how to fix this? I have looked online and found others asking the question, but no answers anywhere. The school is trying to help me, but the lady is just as baffled, she has put a ticket in with the county but has not heard back. I hate ParentVue to begin with, but if I have to use it, I want to be able to use it and not be locked out.

Where to apply for a master's degree if I'm a Software Engineer? UK, Czech Republic or maybe Austria?

First I would like to tell about me in 2-3 words
About me:

• Age: 20
• Current occupation: Software Engineer with 2 years of experience.
• Education: Spent 4 years pursuing a bachelor's degree in my home country.

I'm considering moving to Europe for further studies. I recently discovered a language school that prepares students to study in Czech Republic, Austria, or Slovakia. A key advantage is that education in Czech Republic and Slovakia becomes free if you know their languages, whereas this isn't the case in Austria. Additionally, I've heard that universities in Czech Republic assist students in finding jobs during their studies in IT, which is a significant benefit.
If I lean towards UK, I'd likely try to move there within a year. However, for Austria, Czech Republic, or Slovakia, the timeline is longer. I'd first have to spend a year in my country, then move there and learn their language for one year, and only then would I enroll in a university. So I will basically get my Masters degree in 4 years.
Lifestyle & Cultural Fit:
It's very important to me that the country I choose to study in aligns with my values and offers a comfortable environment. I've heard concerning reports about racism in UK, making me question if it's the right place for me. Moreover, even if I were to get a Master's degree in UK, relocating to a country like Czech Republic afterward might be challenging due to the language barrier.
Connections & Networking:
I'm curious about the strength of connections in each country. While I believe UK offers stronger networking opportunities, I'm weighing the risks and rewards of pursuing education there versus Czech Republic. It's worth noting that Czech Republic is becoming increasingly international, attracting many students from across Europe.
My family recommends UK. However, I have reservations:

• My English proficiency is at a B2 level, and I'm not confident about getting into top-tier universities.
• UK education seems costly, and I'm uncertain about my chances of being accepted as an international student.
  

The language school claims that the Czech Republic excels in IT education. But, there's external pressure from friends and relatives advocating for the UK. Historically and culturally, I feel closer to countries that had associations with the USSR, like the Czech Republic or Slovakia. My desire is to live and build a future in whichever country I ultimately choose for my education, as it's important to me to deeply integrate and connect with the place I'm studying.
I've heard of people who studied in France and Germany and faced challenges beyond just academics. Many struggled to integrate due to language barriers, local attitudes towards newcomers, and even difficulty in finding jobs. The inability to establish a strong social circle or make new friends compounded these issues. This lack of social connection can be particularly tough when trying to adapt to a new environment, where stepping out, socializing, and building relationships are crucial for mental and emotional well-being.
About my Interests:
I want to tell you more about myself. I like playing video games, reading books, and listening to music. By profession, I'm a Software Engineer (programmer), and I truly love what I do. One of my hobbies is creating new things: I make video games, telegram bots, and tools. I also do research. Programming is more than just a job for me; it's something that I'm interested in, just like my work in programming.
While I'm usually an introverted person, I've been enjoying hanging out with new friends lately. This is why it's so important to me to be in a place with kind and welcoming people. I want to make friends, spend time with them, and feel connected, socialized. I don’t want to feel left out or different just because I come from another country. I hope to find a place where I can connect with others and truly feel at home.

What I need:

• Insight into the pros and cons of studying and living in these countries.
• Feedback on current perceptions of UK. I've always admired its history and culture, especially from the 19th and 20th centuries, but recent news gives me pause.
  

For me, a welcoming and friendly environment is very important. While I value high-quality education, I'm willing to consider universities that may not be top-tier if they are in places where I'd feel more at home. Notably, Czech Republic has shown promising statistics in IT and software engineering education, which aligns with my field of interest.
Your advice will greatly help me make an informed decision about my future in Europe.

What's the data say is the ideal number of students one teacher can teach effectively? Feels like a number than any voter voting on school budgets should know.

In academia and business, I've run into things like "Eight is the number of employees one manager can manage most effectively," but I haven't run into the same for elementary or high school class sizes. I'm guessing data shows more of a curve than a specific number, but this feels like a key metric we should know when just budgeting for teachers for the number of kids we have in any area. In my public school experience, I vaguely remember them talking about it in terms of max amount of students a teacher could manage or a classroom could even fit. At the time, that was around 30 and I remember some discussion about how that had risen from 25 and maybe 20 prior to that.

So, is there a good source that has data on ideal class sizes that can be encapsulated into a ballpark number or rule of thumb for the average person?

Maryland is one of the few states which runs its public schools on a County system. This means there are many schools in each county wide system. Baltimore City too has its own large school system. Each county, and the Baltimore city, get state funds for new buildings and large scale renovations. What do you think are recent changes/policies that have most affected special education students or staff? Either positively or negatively.

I am interested in what people think has been the most relevant changes to policy, laws, culture, events, etc. on the outcomes on students and experience of staff. It seems recently (from personal anecdotal experience) there has been a large exodus of special needs teachers that cannot be easily replaced, any thoughts on any specific actions or decisions that contribute to this? (Outside of just COVID changing everything). I am also interested in any specific positive changes too! Anything in the last decade or so is of interest to me.

New York State High School Health Class requirement online?

Has anyone here recently had their high schooler take their New York State Health class requirement online? My son wanted to take it this summer online and his principal said no. I wasn't given a clear reason, just basically not allowed and something vague about state rules. However I know many kids in past years who have done this. I figure this principal wants to put a stop to that going forward. He said that if my son wanted to take an elective online that was fine. But the 1/2 credit health class is required by the state and he has to take it in school (still doesn't really explain why).

Now I find out that a kid in my son's grade spent the summer taking the health class online and had gotten permission from the same principal. This kid had no extenuating circumstances where they would need to do this. But does have a parent on the board of education. I will be calling this principal tomorrow for an explanation and to push for my son to now have the same option. Also, I just heard that a neighboring district allows it, so then it can't be a state regulation that kids can't take it online.

When this principal told me months ago that it wasn't allowed and it had something to do with state guidelines, I didn't really believe or trust him. And now I certainly don't. He must have his reasons, but I don't think he is being transparent or honest about them.

Any administrators or parents here who know of schools in New York that allow kids to take the health requirement online? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

ive always struggled with school. especially this last year, i messed up so bad, failed classes, and got into summer school. in summer school my district offered online classes with video lessons, and i excelled in them by re-watching videos multiple times. i completed all the work quickly and got over 90%, which is uncommon for me. i know sometimes summer school work is much easier, but i’m proud of myself. its also why im considering switching to online school. ive researched it, and all ive found is benefits. for example, the freedom, job opportunities, and ease of seeking help. i genuinely see online school as a way to redeem myself in my last two years of high school (im becoming a junior). my mom's hesitant about it, even after i explained to her how much i could benefit from it. So yeah, id appreciate advice on convincing her and understanding any potential downsides or why this is a terrible idea

How much are MLTs paying in the Midwest?

Hi all! I’m currently in school to become an mlt in indiana. My aunt is one and I like the work she does, plus she gets paid great money. She swears up and down that I’ll get paid great money too. She has an A.A. And gets paid like 34/he, but she’s also been doing it for 8 years. When I looked up the average salary, it’s a lot lower than her estimate. I understand that those sites don’t distinguish unlicensed from licensed, or even other lab techs from the specific one I’m looking at. Is there some kind of "education reform 101" resource I could look into?

So, I'm a 20 year old unemployed male interested in education reform and activism, but unfortunately there are so many conflicting philosophies and no concrete steps I know of to start a reform movement.

I think it'd be really cool to take some kind of course on how to actually do this. I have a dream to start a massive movement to help public schools change the classroom experience, because I hated school and also hated college because it made me depressed and feel hopeless and a slave.

Are there books, youtube channels, or anything like that to get started? I feel like it's one thing to have some ideas about education philosophy, but another level entirely to have concrete ways to implement that into activism.

I graduated HS in a foreign country, do I need a GED in the US?

Basically what the title says, I got my HS transcripts from a third world country and I've heard different stories.

Some people telling me I need to take the GED and SAT to be accepted in a university and some others telling me that I just need to pay to an agency like WES to evaluate the equivalency of my studies and then take a SAT.

What can be done about acts of violence in the classroom? (Student vs student. In Texas Public Schools)

This year my daughter has had 2 acts of violence, presumably from the same student, but they refuse to release identity. For context this is elementry in special education/ structed classes. (Is this the correct subreddit?)

The first instance was getting kicked in the back. Today was a chair thrown to the head; bump on head and possible concussion. Daughter is autistic and has trouble verbally communicating.

Without going to college, (already been) how can I learn to write?

I will try to keep this brief. I got my bachelor's degree eons ago and long story short, I should have waited because I have changed so much. I am physically disabled as well as have some slight cognitive disabilities and have a lot of spare time. I have been self-teaching myself math through Khan, studying French through Duolingo, and reading books on history and science etc. The more finite subjects are easy to teach yourself because there is a definite right or wrong answer and there are videos showing you how to do it, or, at the very least, you are memorizing info and regurgitating it. However, writing is more difficult because there isn't a right and wrong answer beyond making sure everything is spelled and punctuated correctly. How do you differentiate between what is poor, satisfactory, good, or genius level? I can't use a site like K12 or something because you have to be a child and prove it, but I wish there was a way to "do school" again. My local community college has removed all their remedial classes, so that isn't an option, and I know, due to trying a class a while back, that I am not college material anymore. I know this sounds seriously messed up but if I could do anything I wished, I would morph into a 10 year old's body for instance, with the knowledge I have, and fine tune my education to make sure I have learned everything I should have. I miss being in school. I guess you could say I am going through my second childhood. This isn't for a job or anything, it is just my hobby. I don't know how you can be the student and the teacher with something like writing because if you know what you are doing wrong you wouldn't do it!

Masters or Ba-na-Ba

Hi there,I'm in a bit of two pass and could use some advice from the people that may have experienced a similar situation.

I'm 23, I've graduated with my Bachelors in Cybersecurity this year & I'm looking for what to do next.On one hand I can do a linking course & masters over the next 3 years in total, which would give me a masters diploma in Computer Science.

On the other hand I could do two Ba-na-Bas simultaneously over the next 2 years that would give me the same bachelors diploma I have right now but with different majors (programming & AI).

As far as my capabilities are concerned, the first year of the masters would be the most difficult since it's a lot of non-IT related courses (Math, Physics, etc.) and I haven't had math in the last 9 years let alone every had any physics, but I'm a quick learner so I think I'd still have a fair chance.

The question that bothers me the most though, is a masters degree worth it? I see people everywhere talking about how experience is more important then your degree, should I instead just go to work & focus on getting some industry standard certifications (CCNA, etc.)?

Hey everyone, I have recieved admission in SRH Berlin and in University of Klagenfurt.

Berlin seemed obviously better but because it's a private university, the fee is too high.

Should I stick with Berlin and take up a student loan or should I take admission in Klagenfurt (way less fee)

Looking for suggestions

Hi, so I’m finishing my bachelors degree this fall semester. MY BA is in political science, but I want to pursue a masters related to education to marry the two, but I’m having trouble figuring out which masters would be right for what I want to do so I obviously came to reddit 😬.

I want to primarily work in special education advocacy in some way. Being a mother to multiple kids who need special education has really opened my eyes to how broken special education (and the US education system in general) is. I’d like to work in advocacy and reform, but I don’t ALWAYS want to be fighting against things, I also want to work to build the education system I’d like to see!

I had considered my university’s MS in Educational Psychology and Methodology for this reason, but upon further internet research it looks like that degree doesn’t really do what I think it does? It seems to be mostly for people who want to work in schools using the psychology end of it instead of curriculum design/reform using the methodology end.

Any suggestions?

Can i go to university still?

Basically i haven’t done schooling since freshman year, it’s extremely embarrassing to admit. I was moving so i switched to online and did the year but failed because i was struggling mentally and i have trouble learning unless i’m in a room being taught in person. Then covid happened and ruined my entire chances at schooling because it was entirely online in my town for well over a year. Then i tried to go just last year for junior year ( i should be a senior and graduated but since i failed freshman i was technically a year behind) and developed a medical condition that pulled me out of school for the year. I’m studying for my GED now, and probably will do a year or two of community college, I just wanna know if it’s possibly to get into university and become a vet since that’s the only thing i’ve ever wanted to do. I don’t care about loans of anything, i’ll pay for the rest of my life if i have to. I just want to know if it’s possible to do it.

Teacher fired for reading a book

A teacher in Cobb County, Georgia was fired for reading a book, My Shadow is Purple, to the class. The book challenges gender norms for toys that kids play with. Boys can take ballet, girls can like sports. I guess the young boy's ultimate crime was wearing a skirt to a school dance. He wore a suit on top and a skirt.

English and literature

Why does English and literature, especially in high school, in the US, focus so much on "important" fictional literature like jane austen and Shakespeare. Also why focus so much on writing like a novelist. It's not like a majority of high school students enjoy reading or writing about such matters. Plus a majority of people don't use creative writing in their professional or personal lives. I understand the importance of learning about "important" fictional writing but it shouldn't be taught for more than half the time in high school.

Why not focus more on functional English and literature and develop skills to comphrend and be able to write like a journalist or a researcher. That would be more important for most people in a professional setting and in general for society. Being able to comphrend the writings of Christiane Amanpour or Marie Curie more important than comphrending Pride and Prejuide.

Also to all of the English teachers who think everything should be written in first person, YOU ARE WRONG.. Writing in third person is far more utilized and students should be made comfortable righting in such manner.

When is it "too late" to take high school seriously?

I am about to enter 11th grade with decent grades on many subjects but often failing algebra/geometry to the point where I had to take summer school this summer. I am also probably gonna have to retake the geometry regents next January since I failed. It took me awhile to admit this but the past 2 years I have not taken school as seriously as I should have. I already made a better learning environment for myself at home and sold my airpods since they distract me in class. Do you think junior year is too late to make everything right in time and what tips would you give me?

I'm intrigued by cybersecurity, statistics, and radiography. Currently, I'm pursuing a complimentary education in Cybersecurity followed by Statistics. Given the rise of AI and my self-directed learning approach, I'm uncertain about the viability of the cybersecurity and statistics path. Im a student, in my sophomore year now. At the beginning of freshman year at my bad school i was assaulted and had my arm broken, for what reason you may ask? Well there usually isnt a good reason to do that anyways but the reason for breaking my arm in this case was well, nothing! I wish this was a one sided story but the kid literally said “ i dont know, i just wanted to body slam him because i wanted to impress my boys”. I missed about 5 months of school because when we asked my school to transfer me to another one, they put me in the wrong school and it became a long process where I did no school. Then i got into online school but this was the end of the year and i had little to no knowledge of any of this stuff we were doing because i missed so much. I cheated my way through it, but still didnt get enough credits to be on sophomore level. Now my sophomore year is about to begin, i tried so hard to sign up for other schools but they just put me on a waitlist that im not “guaranteed” to get enrolled. So what that means is , i have to do another year of online school where i have no idea what the stuff im doing is about. Please can i do anything? I feel stuck and helpless with my education. I used to be a straight A student. If i do another year of online school im not learning anything and its also just depressing. I cant go back to my old school due to just fear these other schools are not accepting me. Edit: i realize now i ranted, i was just very angry writing this. I dont want pity, i just feel like my highschool years are done for.

Alternatives to taking away recess?

Elementary vice principal here in a CA public school. Anyone have ideas for discipline aside from taking away recess? This is my first year at this site, and years prior they used ‘bench slips.’ I convinced the principal to move away from the ‘term bench,’ and instead we classified it as the ‘reflection zone.’ Students will be assigned x amount of minutes (to avoid having NO recess) and have the option of sitting or walking around the reflection zone. Once their time is up, they are asked to reflect with a yard supervisor.

Any other thoughts?

Can't decide whether I should switch a degree from aerospace engineering to engineering physics.

Hi everyone,

I should provide some context about my current situation. Two years ago when I was choosing my degree I really struggled to decide between aerospace engineering, physics and engineering physics. Eventually, I opted for aerospace. The first year was great, featuring many "theoretical" courses like maths, thermodynamics, mechanics etc. So I was happy with my decision and went on for the second year.

However, with exception of a few courses, the second year proved to be really boring to me. Topics like strenght of materials, manufacturing and aviation-related content (I am into the space stuff) were horiblly exhausting. And the upcoming year appears to be even worse. Meanwhile, I became regretful about not studying subjects like relativity or nuclear physics and now I am really miserable as I now fear that it's too late to make any changes and I worry that I will end up doing things I don't enjoy.

The only thing I truly enjoyed during the past year was a small portion of an astronautics lecture about orbital mechanics and I am learing it on my own but it also seems to be more suitable for physicists. So I am asking you guys for any piece of advice. Should I switch degrees even if this means starting from the beginning? And what if it will turn out I can't handle physics on that level? I have so many question now.

High school diploma

I hope I am in the right place I apologize if not. I'm 32 now but when I was in 12th grade I dropped out a few weeks to a month before graduating (I know, I know) a therapist of mine suggested seeing if since I already did my senior project and had the credits if I could still get a diploma all these years later. Is this a thing? Or do I just have to settle for a GED? I know they're the same thing, I just am awful at math and would not pass it.

Did I waste 4 years studying at university?

Context: I graduated from university 3 years ago, but due to the pandemic, I got a job outside of my field (engineering). Although I am not currently considering a job in engineering, I noticed recently that I forgot nearly everything I learnt in university (a lot of high school stuff too) while I was brushing up on some mathematics I needed for my job. I got a first-class too so it's not like I did not study for it. At this point, I doubt I can ever get back to a technical career.

Vocational School before Junior College

I’m 22, and ready to start leaning again and I have many aspirations for myself and know my end goal. That end goal includes skills and certifications needed from vocational school and college.

I do need a lot of financial aid in my position and I have no idea if fafsa would help pay for college after vocational school, since I’d already have a career after I graduate. I just want my certifications to be considered as tools for a much bigger picture. Of course I would pay out of pocket for college and not go full time while working under vocational certifications. I just wonder if I’d be applicable for help with tuition in the long run. Tuition cost way more than bills. I’d probably only make enough for an apartment and bills.

I’ve looked on Google and I haven’t seen any questions like mine. I don’t want to take out a loan unless I absolutely have to, but with my credit without a co-signer it’d be impossible. (Car repo)

ROP Credit Help

I graduated in 2013 and took ROP Careers with Children my senior year, which was supposed to make me eligible for college credits. I don't remember how many (I want to say 6?) and I've tried to contact the teacher who taught the class but have never received a reply. I had to have physical timesheets signed by the teachers I helped to verify my hours and took it the entire year, working for about two hours every weekday. Would those credits still count if I applied to a job needing them / how would I go about proving I took the course? Would showing my high school transcript be enough? (I'm in California if that makes any difference.)

38f starting fresh. Need advice.

As the title states… I am 38f and starting fresh. For the last 10 years, I have worked part time retail sales and restaurant jobs while my husband and I work together to care for our two kids. Before we had kids, I sold cars for six years and worked other professional sales jobs. I’d say my talents lie in the fact that I get along with everybody and can talk to anybody and generally people tend to like me which makes me great for any kind of face-to-face sales and customer service jobs. I do not have a college degree and I’m looking to start padding my résumé because after this year, I will be able to get back to working full-time because both kids will be in school full-time. I would love recommendations on completing an associates degree online at home or even just basic skills like learning excel or Microsoft office, or other basic online certifications that would provide with me a leg up when getting back into the workforce. Any advice is greatly appreciated, or even suggestions for jobs that would be good for me without a college degree. Not having a degree never set me back as far as getting good jobs and making good money before kids, but I would ideally like to find something where I don’t have to work weekends and holidays, and those usually require something more than my fantastic personality. TIA

Question on using free content in curriculum

Is it illegal for a school to use free content in their curriculum? Not as in recommendation. Partially as time fillers.

But, I mean as something they're requiring you to view and answer tests on. They're grading you on this.

This is happening at a school that I am at. It's happened in multiple classes actually. I know it's illegal for companies to use free versions of software for work.

I also know there's some schools where they have paid memberships to udemy, coursera and other places. They watch the videos and then "discuss". Which I can understand (Not necessarily approve of but ok...), because they did pay the company for it.

But in this situation, I think this is crossing a lot of lines. Especially when they're receiving 20K per student for a paid education. TBH that's not what free content is there for.

Why can't I remember anything from school

(sorry if its under the wrong flair)

So I'm beginning my 2nd year of high school and I just cant remember what I learn in school which caused me to have a D average grade. Idk what to do anymore I seems I've tried every trick in the book, I can easily remember things from a 40+ historic documentary or YouTube video, but when It comes to school I just cant remember. Anyone have a solution?

Technological University versus Institute of Technology

Anyone else run into problems with Institute of Technology qualifications. For example Cork Institute of Technology no longer exists. Munster Technological University claims these Cork Institute of Technology students studied at Munster Technological University but never graduated. The situation is so bizarre its unbelievable.

Bachelors in psych in us, masters in psych in eu

Hi, I’ve been strongly considering getting a masters degree in psychology somewhere in Europe. I already have my bachelors in psych from a school in the states. I want to get my license to be a masters level therapist in the states (LPC I believe) when I come back. I was wondering if I’ll have any trouble getting the license with a masters oversees? Even though my citizenship and original degree are both from the USA, lived here my whole life, will getting a masters from a country like Germany, Italy, Spain, or the Netherlands ect, effect my ability to get a masters level therapy license in the US?

asking about masters degree

I am a student about to start his senior year in Power Engineering and Environmental Technologies and I wanted to apply abroad for masters courses in Germany. I found this course called "Master of Science in Renewable Energies and Data Technology" at the University of Applied Sciences in Offenburg. Is this program worth it in the long run? Coming from a poor country, this is one of my chances to get a job through this master's degree if I were to study abroad.

Neurodiversity in Teachers?

Hi there! I am a student teacher who has an interest in neurodiversity and I have an assignment coming up that allows me to explore this a bit. I had a conversation with someone a few months ago and they made a joking comment about how it seems a lot of teachers seem to have some sort of neurodiversity. Speaking to my fellow student teachers and some of the teachers I’ve been on placement with, I’m wondering if there might some truth to this.

Would anyone know of any research that might examine such a claim?

where can i get help to make an educational plan for my goal career

I know the exact career I want but Im so confused on exactly how to get there and what degrees are needed. I need some help from someone who knows what they’re talking about when it comes to this but I have no clue what resources are available or who I can talk to in order to help me with this. (i’ve tried speaking with my community college counselors but they only know about the programs offered there. senoir year in high school one credit behind

I am just starting the school year as a senior and am looking for other options to graduate on time. I have spoken to my counselor, but it has been a never ending cycle of the same options that I am unable to take. I am usually given the option to either take a free 3rd party online charter school to recover my credit, pay $150 to take an extra online class, or do 120 hours of community service.

My issue with the 3rd party charter school is that the school is not very reputable and is infamous for its lack of communication with people enrolled in the program as well as being difficult contact when there are issues with the teaching or the program.

The second option on paying the $150 for my credit is that I do not have the money to afford for the classes and do not want to burden my parents to pay for credits that I failed to obtain.

The last option of doing 120 hours of community service is not viable for me as I have pre-existing medical issues that hold me back from being able to do any physical work for too long of a period of time.

The only viable option for me is to graduate a month late by taking a summer class to cover my missing credit. I do not know if this my best choice as it would potentially mess up with scholarships and family business that I have going down this road. What other options do I have?

EdTech Lab Needs Some Soft Touches

I have been helping to design a high school STEM lab. I’m not a designer. It has tons of cool stuff, but it’s super industrial looking. The teacher came to me almost in tears saying it’s not welcoming. She’s not wrong. There’s no rounded corners or soft surfaces. How can we keep soften the industrial look, so it still says STEMLab without feeling so clinical?

She suggested adding plants and fabric on the bulletin board. Any other ideas?

Is "I don't care what you did in [previous grades]" unfair to those with a clean track record?

I don't know why it came to mind recently, but I was thinking about something my high school Canadian History teacher said on the first day of class.

"I don't care what you did in junior high, only what you do in my class."

It felt so unfair to those of us who were actually well behaved in junior high, at least compared to our classmates. What happens if someone is ill behaved throughout elementary, and throughout junior high, but is squeaky clean in senior high? Would they be treated like a better person than someone who was well behaved throughout elementary, and throughout junior high, but had a few behavioural slip-ups in senior high?

For the record, I feel a similar way about young offender leniency; it's just that in practice teenagers sometimes get charged as adults anyway, so the real issue isn't young offender leniency; which is a charade anyway; so much as the biases influencing whether people decide to apply it or not. But I'm not sure whether it was such a charade on the teacher's part.

​

Incidentally, I came to be perceived by her and other teachers as one of the better-behaved students anyway, but my initial reaction to the "don't care what you did in junior high" remark carried through all the same. It's the principle of the matter; I shouldn't let how I feel about it depend on whether or not I happen to be a benefactor thereof.

Deciding major? Gap year? Trying out new things?

I'm taking a gap year, currently working so I can save up for UNI. I'm not sure what I want to study but I do know that I am good more at the social media, creative side, art side. I live in a small town with no opportunities in the areas of field that I want to do, I can't afford to move out either to try out opportunities in person. I was wondering, if I could sort of self-teach myself the things I want to do online to get a hint of what I want to do, and what I can see myself doing, for more clarity, like graphic design, branding, perhaps trying out a business, website-making, maybe a bit of fashion design here and there, product-formulation. (I know it's a lot I want to try out, but I like trying new things, and with somewhat of this free-time and no tests or exams I can do it) I also want to mention, I have a sort of a clear idea to see what major I want, because I don't want to major in "art", I'd rather minor in the arts/design, because I feel like I can self-teach myself those things. I feel like I want to take majors that provide a foundation and a base to it, so that then I can make money off of it, rather it just being a "passion" so then I can turn it into money. I'm thinking about business, but some seem to say it's a worthless major. I feel like it would help me in any case if I want to do either of the things I mentioned above, it would help if I ever want to perhaps build a business whether it be for fashion, products, brand, creating websites, promoting, and know the business side of things since I am thinking more about wanting to work for myself rather than for a company, and leaning towards more free-lancing. I also want the degree as a back-up, just in case.
I've also heard marketing majors as well, but I'm not sure. (It's honestly a rant, but I will strongly appreciate feedback)

Also, I'm debating on going full-time so I can have money for UNI, but I also want to have time to try all these new things that I want to try out.

1.) I'm about to enter my senior year of high school and I was wondering will my class rank reset?

2.) If not will my "percentile" change if people are planning to graduate early.

3.) Is it harder to get into a certain percentile if there are less people in my "class." For example, if there are only 80 students in my senior year will it be harder to be in 7th percentile compared to if there were 200?

Unconventional history essay topics

l'm going to teach history classes this year and apart from just teaching I wanted to engage my students to write several Essays like had to in University.

So wanted to ask for your ideas on unconventional topics (not 'explain why Luther criticised the curch"). For example: Is History stil| important nowadays? Can there ever be a "true" History? Why do we study history when you can look up everything on the Internet?

The students should mainly develop their writing skills and implement their knowledge. Really any idea is appreciated!

South Korea's shocking childcare policy

Starting next year, South Korea will offer legal childcare services from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. during school hours. This service, called "Neulbom," is a childcare service that provides meals and play programs for children in dual-income families where both the mother and father work. Many teachers believe that this will overload teachers and interfere with the proper emotional development of children, but it was the president's campaign promise, and the education minister has begun to fulfill it.

The True Measure of Education: Behavior Trumps a Degree

True education goes beyond degrees and is best seen in behavior. While degrees provide theoretical knowledge, behavior reflects qualities such as empathy, integrity, adaptability, and resilience. Degrees can be obtained without demonstrating these qualities, while behavior showcases a person's true education and ability to contribute positively to society.

I am not discrediting the importance of education or suggesting that degrees are entirely meaningless. They do hold value in certain fields that require specialized knowledge, such as medicine or engineering. However, we must shift our focus from solely valuing degrees to recognizing the significance of behavior in determining a person's true education.

Going to college for the first time at 33 years old.

Hey there. I've recently decided to go to college so that I can better my life and advance in a career. I want to get my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science but I've run into what I consider to be a potential problem. Math. I wasn't bad at math in High School but I hardly remember any of it and a BS in Computer Science requires Trig, Statistics among other courses that I didn't even take in High School. I'm concerned about my ability to pass these math classes. Any advice on the courses themselves or how doable this really is? Thank you!

Can someone explain the uk education system and highschools?

I need it for a school work about education I am doing in sociology class. I don't understand it and I really need to, especifically to understand high school studies.

I'll tell you how it works where I come from:

6yr-12yr - Grade 1-6 - Elementary School

12yr-15yr - Grade 7-9 - Middle School

15yr-18yr - Grade 10-12 - Highschool

In highschool you have study units for each subject and the maximum of units you have in a subject is five (apart from some rare cases), the make your graduate diploma and you need a minimum amount of 21 units overall to get a highschool diploma.

There is English and Math when you have to do at least three units but you can do up to five. There is Literature, History, Hebrew, Bible and Citizenship where you have to do only two but you can also do up to five. And there are other subjects you can do between 3-5 in but they vary between school and you are not obligated to do them.

Now, you have to have at least one subject with five units that is can't be English or Math from one of the other subject I mentioned or the ones that vary. And why did I explain all of this? For you to understand what I want from you and tell me if it's any similar to this or completely different and why?

How’s in person adult school Vs. virtual adult school? (California)

I have the option for both, but the transportation for going in person is definitely a struggle (2 buses and a 20m walk).

The in person adult school isn’t exactly appealing either. It’s in a low income area and the classes are in those temporary shell rooms.

Though, I do feel I would benefit most from learning in person and I like the potential social aspect of it.

I’ve never done virtual learning so I don’t know if that could be just as a viable option. Online classes would save me so much time and walking. Also I like the morning schedule of virtual classes better.

My main questions are:

How was your experience with in person adult school? Was there any social aspect to it, such as making friends?

How was your experience with virtual? Did you have problems learning in that environment?

The world's first AI based textbook

Young student's educational performance is now at a 50 year low. We are cramming more material, and pouring more resources into classrooms but it is not working.

Why? well the average middle / high schooler does not get to decide what they will learn. School is filled with classes, locked into rigid timetables and pre-determined content. Student's don't get the opportunity to explore what truly fascinates them. Most will sit passively, intent on memorizing information presented.

Curiosity and Autonomy is a powerful combination. One that is severely lacking in most people today. But you can’t just expect a child to learn independently. We need a balance of guidance and self-direction.

This frustration ultimately led me to build Inquistory, an AI textbook for history. Unlike a textbook, students don’t just passively read through long chapters of content. Inquistory briefly explains a high level ideas a student, and student's must inquire about the content to advance.

• Goodnotes: best notetaking app for iPad. Edit pdf slides, upload textbook pdf, write notes, and more. All for a one-time payment.
• InClass: AI chatbot that tutors you for your class. Easily create study guides and flashcards, all with your class material. They have a waitlist right now.
• Google Calendar: for all scheduling
• Google Docs: note taking, sharing documents, etc.
• Canva: creating fancy slides
  

I hope all of these tools help! I feel the most important thing is to have a detailed calendar and put everything on it.

Tired of education system

When I first entered to college I thought it was a place to explore myself, Filled with new ideas, a place to develop my critical thinking . But it turns out, things didn't work out just like I expected. Filled with boring lectures and assignments which doesn't make sense . I went out to college not only to get a stupid degree but to think more creatively about my subject but it turns out the college is filled with egoistic lecturers who don't even listen to students who think creative questions ( some even calls me stupid for asking doubts ) that's why I use chat gpt or Google to solve my doubts instead of my teachers who thinks that they are the center of universe

So ....is this my problem ....or is it the problem of the system ...I am confused 🤔

Colleges online that does not use proctor testing

I’m thinking of going to Perdu Global University or Asu online. I’m a recent grad from SNHU with a bachelor in Information technology. I’m not use to the proctor testing method. Do Asu or Perdue Global University use the proctor testing technique for the Information technology masters program? Is it possible to work a few years and save up money for a degree and then go back to college...

Basically my parents are unemployed and by the time I'm done with my second masters I'm going to be 27 . I think I have to start working in the next two years . In my country,to be a psychologist you need an M.phill degree but I can't study after my masters, I don't have the resources to do that .

I'm scared I'm being unrealistic. What if I never save up enough to do an M.phill ? Is this strategy even practical?Am I setting myself up for failure ?

Hi, my 7 year old cousin has never been to school and doesn't know any basic things. Im an 18 year old looking to teach her and i want to be able to help her. How do i start? Where do i start? Do scantrons read marks that are not covering bubble choices?

What happens if there is a mark on the SCANTRON that is not on top of a bubble but close to it. For example, for scantrons that have Columns of bubbles next to each other , what happens if there is a mark in between the columns .

Free peer tutoring by high school volunteers!

Hi everyone, I’d like to tell you all about No Need To Cheat Tutoring: a project I started with a friend of mine to encourage academic success and discourage cheating (particularly in high schools). The way it works is simple — a student between the ages of 13-17 signs up for a Zoom meeting on our website (noneedtocheat.org), we get back to them in a couple of days, and then the casual, virtual meeting is held at an agreed time. There are many subjects to choose from for students to learn about: from machine learning to Spanish.

And, if you’re in highschool and want to join us, there’s a form for that too.

We hope you’ll spread the word and give us the opportunity to be a force for positive change.

Short Term Substitute License (IL)

So, long story short, my fafsa screwed up so I want to get a short term sub job and I got the school district lined up, however when I go into my educator licensure portal (ELIS) only long term substitute shows up which I don't have the credentials for.

Any thoughts? I just need to know if there is something I'm missing on this website 😅

how hard is it to get a scholar ship for me?

I'm a student in an Egyptian public college (studying engineering) with a GPA of 2.67 as of the first year. I am applying for a college in the us now UTSA as a transfer student. I meet all the transfer requirements but found that I probably wont be able to afford tuition there (which I found out to be about 11k per term) do i have a chance at financial aid or a scholarship or do i give it up for now?

Wikipedia Co-Founder Condemns It: “Most Biased Encyclopedia” in History . Did you use it as a reference for your students?

It's well known now that its completely controlled by the US gov.

I remember 10 years ago allowing my 6th grade students using it as a reference.

Can I graduate half way through my senior year?

I'm in a situation where I need my diploma by March 6th, 2024. I'm going into my senior year right now and am expected to get it in June of 2024. Is it possible to finish my senior year in half the amount of time if I have not been planning to do so ahead of time.

If I want to run a restaurant or store, and do some small-scale self-employed international trade, what kind of university education can help me better?

I already have a master's degree, but if I want to do these things, some knowledge would be useful. I can study for maximum two years, and I don't have to complete my studies, due to some reasons.

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools states a goal of making every school in the US a charter school

Nina Rees, the President and CEO of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, said that her organization's “personal goal” is to make all public schools “like charter schools” that would be “schools of choice.”

This would presumably include lotteries for your child to attend your local school, privately appointed boards, for-profit managed schools and an end to whatever bargaining rights teachers have in most states.

What sized school should I take my child to?

I was recently offered a fully remote job with my employer. (largest hospital system in the state) They completely sold off the building they were using for administrative support, so it doesn't look like it will ever come back to in person.

My wife has been starting a custom woodworking business out of our tiny garage. She's been getting enough business that she needs a larger space. So we decided its time to move.

She wants to move to a real small area. Townships the size of the ones both of us grew up in. Less than a few hundred people small. She remembers it much better than me. She was a 4H farmers daughter. There was tons of stuff for her to do with farming, wood classes, cows and chickens to raise, etc.

I also grew up in a small town like that but I was the nerdy kid playing D&D and figuring out how to use Napster, Kazaa, etc, while wishing my high school had something cool like a basic robotics club, science clubs, or even a chess club. My high school had none of that. I was bored out of my skull. My grades suffered because I just stopped caring. My graduating class had 30 people in it in 2002.

She wants our now 4 yr old to be able to go to that smaller school, with more individualized attention, small class sizes etc. I would rather see her be able to attend a medium to large school system in a town of 3-8k people. Someplace where we could still get a house with land and a large barn/workshop where she could work.

4 yr old girl currently likes dance and tumbling classes in a larger city of 20k and a large city 15 min away of 250k. Trying to get at least n hour away from the big city where house prices aren't stupid.

​

Which do you think is better for a child? Smaller classrooms in a rural school or medium to larger class sizes with more extra curricular opportunities?

​
