Do you think racism is correlated with education?

Hi everyone, first post here, but as it hasn’t been covered yet, I wanted to ask you this question:

What is your opinion on racism and education? Do you think the higher the level of study is, the less racist someone may be ?

Inner-city schools are the worst schools to work at so it's only fair that they have a hard time keeping teachers

I am a 4th grade teacher from Massachusetts. I went from teaching at one of the poorest neighborhoods in Boston to teaching at an upper-middle class community located in the suburbs of Boston (Brookline, MA). While I was at that urban school, I couldn't help but noticed that the issues go way beyond funding. The kids lacked discipline and parental involvement. Parents were too busy working multiple jobs to get involved in their kids' lives. This perpetuated a culture of laziness and constant disruptions. Kids were constantly coming to school with their homework unfinished. The kids were incredibly disrespectful and rude. They kept leaving their seats, throwing things, not doing work, refusing to follow basic routines, etc. Cussing and fighting were the norm. I got called names such as bitch, hoe, motherfucker. While I was there, I kept asking myself why those people had kids. Those kids are perfect examples as to why you should use a condom or practice abstinence if you don't have the time to dedicate to your kids. And did I mention that the school had an incredibly high turnover rate? People were quitting within days, weeks, months.

Now let's talk about my experience teaching at the suburbs. Those issues that I was facing at a daily basis at my previous school are rare at my current school. I found the kids in suburbs to have a lot more self-control, more home support, more desire to come to school to learn (as opposed to coming to school to have basic needs met), etc. They are worlds apart academically, behaviorally, socially, emotionally, etc. Not to mention, the parents at my current school are highly involved in their kids' lives!

should I be worried about truancies at the end of the school year?

I [16F] have gathered about 16 or 17 absences up until now due to the fact that school is almost over, meaning teachers aren't going to teach anything big or new anymore (we have 8 days left of school) so I just stay home, do my assignments (everything is digital so I'm not missing any work) + i already finished all of my finals in my classes except for the last one next week. but I've begun to worry about my truancy, it's been about 17 absences but I haven't received anything from the school. like, at all. no emails, no letters home, no meetings, no punishment, no warnings, like, absolutely nothing. and I feel like it's too late in the school year to ask about truancy to my counselor, but theoretically, if I missed the last day or 2 of school, would they be able to send me to court, summer school, or make me repeat the year? again, absolutely no information or warnings from the school at all so im not sure what measures they'll take against chronically absent students, but would they still punish kids for missing the last few days of school? I'm just going to assume I'm at the border of getting a repercussion by like 1 or 2 more absences,, but would they really do something for missing the last day of school for example? for reference I live in Northern VA and have just average grades. but yea, would they really get mad over missing the last day of school at this point?

Replica GCSE grades 18 years in?

Hi guys,

I am applying for a college course but I don't have my school grades present as it's been over 18 years and the colleges won't accept me.

Courses start in September and take 6 months to get my standard GCSEs and I dont really want to be waiting around since I want to be on this college course as soon as possible.

I called up my school to get my grades and they said they only keep our GCSEs on record for 6 years.. so would it be so bad if I just paid for some replica grades to get on the course?

Having abit if a debate with myself wether its moral or not?

TIA

Professor accused me of cheating and was proven wrong!

I (M58) am enrolled at an amazing school that I was thrilled to be accepted into two years ago as its difficult program to enter. I have been doing very well with the majority of my subjects averaging an A grade.

I have been working for nearly 40 years and I would go back to study every 6-7 years to stay fresh, apprised of new technology etc. At 58, I knew this was my last big study hurrah, and I was excited.

In fall semester 2023, I was sitting on an A for all my subjects and was approaching my finals. Less than two weeks prior to my final exams, the entire class for one of my subjects received an email declaring the evidence of plagiarism and cheating had come to light.

It was a horrible accusatory email and after 3-4 days, the class was none-the-wiser about who exactly was being accused. I contacted my lecturer and to my absolute shock - he told me that I was one of the accused! I nearly died. I was instantly humiliated, ashamed, embarrassed, in complete disbelief as I know I did not cheat on any subject - anytime.

I cannot describe the effect the accusation had on me. I was officially accused of plagiarism and cheating. It was literally the worst experience of my long educational history. I went into a spin; what happens now? Will I be booted out of my program? Who knows about this?!? How mortifying!

For this subject, every assignment, every tutorial, exam etc was of an “A” Grade quality. NOTHING BELOW AN A. I was so sick to my stomach, I couldn’t sleep and was advised that I had to prepare for a formal investigation by the school. It was a nightmare.

Less than a week later, I sat my final exam for that subject, and it was the only coursework that I did not receive an A for. In fact, I got an F. My confidence disappeared; the wind was blown out of my sails. My high “A” / GPA 4.00 immediately fell to a B- or GPA 3.00. My other subjects all dropped from an A or A+ and plummeted dramatically.

I was devastated and furious. The process involved an intensive highly formal investigation. Unfortunately, this all happened days before the festive season. I spent the entire Christmas/New Year period alone, stressed, depressed, not believing where I found myself.

The professor who threw the charges against me wrote a detailed accusation report that blew my mind in terms of its length. I was accused of cheating and plagiarizing on a specific assignment handed in a month or two prior. The report indicated not a suspicion of cheating but a clear ACCUSATION of cheating.

The amount of work I had to pull together to prepare for my day “in court” was immense. I spent DAYS UPON DAYS preparing the most detailed, fact-based, and well written presentation, that addressed every accusation head on, with proof. I knew I had pulled together an impressive presentation and report.

In the second week of January 2024, I was pulled into the absolutely nerve-wracking defense of my reputation, and I meticulously presented my information and refused to shorten its length as I knew I needed to present all my facts.

I was terrified but presented well. Then I had to wait a week for their official response. Let’s be clear- if found guilty, I was liable to be kicked out of my school. In the 3rd week of January, the Dean and his investigators contacted me. I was sweating profusely. Their response was in: “not guilty on all accounts.” I literally fell to the floor. I was thrilled.

So I immediately turned around to the accusing professor and requested that i be given an opportunity to sit a fresh exam, or similar, to remedy my shocking performance and lock in the A that I was averaging for my entire course except that final exam.

My argument was that the stress of this awful accusation; the humiliation; and the inability to focus during that final week of semester, led me to bomb dramatically in my finals.

A side note: the accusing professor actually LIED on four points on her report that I reported to several school staff. Not a single staff member would follow through with this even though I had proof.

I had student support school staff that were supportive and offered to try and get this professor to enter into dialogue with me. However, she rudely snapped by email at myself and her peers and refused to take any accountability nor interest in what I had gone through.

Fast forward to today - 4 months later - culminating in a conference call with another professor and student support staff member and was told “why don’t you drop this” and “you know you pushing this won’t make a difference “….”just drop it.”

I hated the “feedback and guidance”. It was lame and preplanned.

I believe I have a solid case - legally - against the school. All I want is to be allowed to defend my straight A performance and not be told “oh well, unfortunately this affected your finals. You still got an B-.”

This is edited down believe it or not, but I’m keen to hear your opinions and obviously can answer any questions. I look forward to hearing your opinions reddit folk.

Thank you all.

Should parents be allowed to give money to the school?

Here's the situation in my area. There are 3 schools.

School 1 has affluent families. One of the mothers wants to volunteer to be the schools volleyball coach. She has a dentist husband and is stay at home. She used to play volleyball in college and would be a great coach.

School 2 has middle class families, like plumbers and nurses. A few parents found a college student who is a great volleyball player and needs a job. They want to pool their money and hire her as a coach. The college student can't do it for free, but would be really good.

School 3 has mostly lower class parents. Fortunately, a teacher says they can help out. The teachers know nothing of volleyball and can't do much more than give gym access. A charitable individual in the area says they can get them some balls, nets and equipment. However, this might not really be enough to make a team happen.

Who, if anyone should get a volleyball team, and why?

Lost records

So my high school, in Alabama, uses a third party company to store records. Problem is, they lost my transcripts. I found this out the last time I needed proof of high school completion and it took months just to get in contact with a school counselor and superintendent to verify, through a school program the year I graduated, that I did graduate. The problem is I don't have months to wait if I find a better job, it's completely ridiculous that I wasted so much time of my life just for it to be lost. Should I try for a GED just to have something I could show immediately to potential future employers?

Too many A's?

I attended a senior award ceremony and three quarters of the graduating class had a 3.75 GPA or higher. This school offers very few classes where you can earn a 5 for an A. Very few students even take those classes. So how do so many students have such high GPAs?

Am I crazy for wanting to teach 8th grade science?

I'm an 18 year old guy going to college in the fall to get my bachelors degree and then complete my teaching credential, and currently I want to start out teaching middle school (8th grade) science.
I know of lot of you guys think teaching middle school is hell, but in my opinion the pros outweigh the cons. The current list of reasons I want to teach 8th grade Is:
I connect well with this age group (13/14 year olds), my humor works with them, and I find them funny
They're still more interested in school and are easier to engage, more likely to participate in class discussions
They still have enthusiasm about things, much more so than high schoolers who are mostly apathetic towards school in general
They're old enough to have serious in-depth conversations....
...But are still young enough they want to play games, which can be utilized to teach in a fun way (something I love doing)
They are loyal to you and actually care if you show them real respect
This is a critical age of development, so you have a huge influence over them
No APs/IBs, grades don't matter as much, and school is less stressful for the kids
I currently work at a summer camp as a cabin leader/counselor and the middle school age group is my favorite. I know teaching middle schoolers will be vastly different than working at a summer camp, but some of the strategies I've learned for managing kids will carry over. I'm also very passionate about science, love teaching people new things in engaging ways, and find I connect with middle schoolers really well.
I know I've only listed pros here, and there are countless obvious cons, but each day will be an adventure and even though some days (most days) I'll be exhausted and overwhelmed, I'll rarely have boring days. Also I know I'll have to deal with
Anyways, thoughts on this? Those who have taught middle school or middle/high school what are your thoughts on my list of pros?
Follow up question: how much freedom do I get over curriculum/how I teach the curriculum (assuming I'm following the California NGSS science standards). I Basically can I write my own tests/quizzes, do my own labs/demos/games? Or does it have to fall exactly in line with what the department/admin decides? How Is this for you?

Non-compete clauses and online tutoring

I've considered doing online tutoring for one of those big tutoring companies in the past but decided against it, in part because doing so would have required signing a non-compete clause. I might want to start my own tutoring business eventually. But last month the Biden administration put out new regulations against non-compete clauses. Does anyone know how this will affect online tutors? I assume most tutors who work for the big sites are contractors, not employees; I don't know if that makes a difference.

spelling bee education

Thinking about encouraging your child to participate in a spelling bee?
While winning the trophy is exciting, the benefits go far beyond the stage! Preparing for a spelling bee helps kids develop valuable skills that contribute to overall academic success and lay a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Stronger Reading Comprehension: Engaging with new words strengthens a child's ability to decode and understand text. Mastering spelling patterns helps children recognize unfamiliar words when reading, leading to smoother reading fluency and a deeper understanding of the content.
Vocabulary Powerhouse: Exposure to new words expands their vocabulary, enriching their communication skills. Participating in spelling bees introduces them to a wider range of vocabulary, allowing them to express themselves more clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing.
Confidence Booster: Overcoming challenges and mastering difficult words builds self-belief and resilience. Spelling bees provide a platform for children to test their knowledge and skills in a safe environment. Stepping outside their comfort zone and successfully navigating the competition builds confidence and a sense of accomplishment, which can translate into other areas of their lives.
Memory Muscle: Learning to spell strengthens memory and promotes critical thinking skills. Spelling bees require a lot of memorization, but it's not just rote learning. Children learn to analyze word structures, identify patterns, and develop memory techniques – skills that are essential for success in all academic subjects.Additionally, preparing for a spelling bee can also foster a love for language and learning! Exploring the beauty and complexity of words can spark a lifelong passion for reading, writing, and communication.
Mnemon can help your child on their spelling bee journey! We offer in-depth guidance, structured approach, interactive & personalized learning paths that make learning to spell fun and effective. Click here to know more https://core.m.cb.mnemon.ai/?shield=349647c-i3jiqb4iz61904jo7o

CUNY Internationalist Clubs: For Mass Student/Labor Action Against U.S./Israel War and NYPD Repression

Spartacist League: A Weird and Desperate Frenzy

For Mass Student/Labor Action Against U.S./Israel War and NYPD Repression

By CUNY Internationalist Clubs

In the early hours of May 1, hundreds of students at Columbia University and the City University of New York (CUNY) were arrested, some beaten and brutalized, by the notorious New York Police Department (NYPD), as university administrations called in the cops to “sweep” campus Gaza solidarity encampments. Within hours, the CUNY Internationalist Clubs (four of whose activists were among those arrested) called an emergency speak-out at Hunter College that drew almost 200 students and faculty to protest the police/CUNY repression. In the aftermath, the Spartacist League put out a string of fliers calling to “Strike the Campus!” When there was no walkout, it tried to explain away the failure to suck a “strike” out of its thumb by bizarrely trying to scapegoat the Internationalist Club, even though the CUNY Internationalists spoke at every meeting the SL called. While the used-to-be-revolutionary group going under the misnomer Spartacist takes refuge in gimmickry, flitting erratically from one stunt to the next, the Internationalists and class-struggle activists in the faculty/staff union fight for mass CUNY- and city-wide union/student march against the repression and witch hunts targeting pro-Palestinian protesters. Explain USA education system please

Can someone please explain the USA education system to me please. I’m from the UK and I never understand education posts from the US. In the UK we have primary school age 5-11 Secondary School age 11-16 college 16-18 ( all compulsory and no charge) then university 18-21 ish depending on course length which you have to pay for usually via student loan which is deductible once you earn over 27k at about 9% of your salary over 27k so if you earn 35k you pay 9% of 8k towards your student loan debt. The university fees are capped at £9,250 per year so if your course is a 5 year course the maximum you would come out with in fees are 5x£9250. Students can apply for additional grants to cover their student accommodation the amount they get would depend on their parent’s income.

Thanks in advance

Kiddo with extreme hyperactivity

I’m a new preschool teacher. We have no kind of therapy or psych resources here. I’ve got a kiddo who is crazy hyperactive. Like, he is constantly jumping around, singing, and wiggling and can’t even sit down for more than a second. It’s all compulsive and he intends to listen and then after five seconds, can’t. I’ve never worked with a kid with this much hyperactivity. He’s smart and interested in school but literally cannot rein it in. Any suggestions for how to best help him learn? I let him wiggle as long as his mouth is off but even that can be disruptive. I just want to serve him the best I can while still being able to keep the class in order.

The ridiculous things parents have criticised me for...

So I'm a young, female, literature (not english) teacher in a private international school. I came half way through the year to replace a teacher that has been here for decades. My coworkers and higher ups have been impressed with my work, and nothing but super supportive. The kids themselves (above 12 y.o.) have been lovely as well, and for the most part, any issues I may have had with them have been sorted and I feel good about our relationships going forward.

The parents though.... This six months I have received angry emails for...

-Giving the student a bad grade.

-Traumatising the student with a bad grade (different parent).

-Giving a different grade to the two children of the same family.

-Assessing the students according to the national curriculum (I don't).

-Assessing the students according to the grade appropriate criteria.

-Not giving students points for analysis when they didn't analyse a text (after I had taught them how to analyse a text and given them assignments on it).

-Asking the students to say what they think metaphors mean (I teach literature).

-The parent not understanding the assignment (the child does)

-Making the students read more difficult literature they're used to (the book was chosen by the previous teacher).

-Using a poem that uses difficult language.

-Using chat GPT to generate an easy to read poem.

-Alluding to violence (eating) in a made up example.

-Confusing a student by NOT inviting them to take an exam when I knew they could not take the exam.

At this point I can't but laugh... Please share your most ridiculous parental comments, as we wish them farewell for another summer

(Edit:spacing)

Better to try and get the F or do the work at home and get an A?

My daughter is in certain classes that are advanced. She’s in 6th grade. She has straight A’s because she gets her work done. When test time approaches, she will get an F. The latest is computational thinking where she had to program to get a guy out of a maze. She knew her numbers were off. Her classmate ended up taking her work home and figuring it out at home. I don’t believe work was supposed to be taken home to do. This same classmate already wrote her 4 paragraph essay for her English exam. The teacher wouldn’t accept it as it had to be done at home.

Even with the F, my kid still has an A. I think it’s more important to think on your feet and fail than get the grade. Though I don’t think my kid was thinking she would get an F on it.

As teachers - do you want your students to get it right with help or do it on their own with the possibly of failing?

graduationg without keystones ?

Im a junior in high school currently, but I only have two weeks left. I needed to take my literature and biology keystones this year because i was in the hospital last year and couldnt take them. Unfortunately I couldnt take them on the assigned days because of conflicts with getting a ride to and from the school building, since there wouldnt be a bus. I was planning on taking them on the makeup days, but then I got a pretty serious case of Influenza which im still recovering from. Does anyone know what the consequences are for having not taken my keystones? Can I still graduate, or even go to my senior year? My school counselor is being really flaky with information so I dont know what the stakes and consequences are about this. My district requires the keystones to be taken and passed with at least a basic before senior year. I know if I dont pass I can graduate with an alternate plan by getting accepted to a college, but I dont know what the deal is when having not taken the keystones at all. Can someone please help, does anybody have information on this? Im in pennsylvania, if that helps with anything.

I'm not trying to fail in life because of them. And I know it's just 9th grade but repeat 9th grade means another year with these people. I'm trying to go to military school but I still want to catch up with my school work.

Help deciding on early school path K-5+

Our first kid is starting kindergarten in the Fall, and we're having trouble deciding where to send them. We were hoping to get some other folks' thoughts on pros/cons, or what kinds of questions we should be asking ourselves/schools/teachers, to help guide our decision.

We're looking at:

  1. A Waldorf-inspired charter school; K-8
  2. A two-way immersive Spanish language program; K-8
  3. A 'regular' public school kindergarten.

For number 1, we have a grandparent that is a big advocate for the Waldorf system, with a few other grandkids that went to a different, private Waldorf school. We really like a lot of what we've seen with this charter school; a private education experience without the cost, hand-work and practical skills like cooking and sewing, trying to keep some of the magic of being a kid, confidence building and public speaking. The teacher also moves with their class through the grade levels, which strikes me as an incredible opportunity for the teacher to build a very strong and personal relationship with each student, truly getting to know their strengths and weaknesses, 'hitting the ground running' each year.

For downsides, due to the small size of this charter school, they only have 1 class per grade level, so unfortunately, that means that if our kid clashes with this teacher for whatever reason, our only option is to find another school. We've also heard that reading is very much NOT a priority until much later under the Waldorf system, and our kid LOVES to read. Not sure if that's really a problem or not; they'd probably be a few years ahead of normal kindergarten reading anyways, and it's not like we're NOT gonna keep reading at home, but that Waldorf philosophy really struck us as odd (In case it's not obvious, we parents are voracious readers ourselves...).

For number 2, it is a program which starts with 90% of the day done in Spanish, with plenty of contextual clues and gestures, etc. to help kids understand. This balance shifts gradually year by year, until it is roughly 50% Spanish and 50% English by around Grade 5. Being fluent in English and Spanish is a huge advantage here, and learning language that young seems to come waaay easier than later in life. The exposure to different culture would be invaluable as well.

For downsides, it sounds like a pretty intense experience. The teachers warn that the kids often come home exhausted at first, that they might not want to talk about their day due to needing to 'recharge' first. The school itself isn't quite as nice, definitely more crowded. The program is in its 5th year, so the grade 6-8 part is planned at a local Middle School, but hasn't been 'battle-tested'.

Number 3 is the public school we're zoned for. It's a newer facility, backs up to one of our favorite parks, and would be about a 15 minute walk through quiet neighborhoods or a 5 minute drive. Otherwise, just... a regular school.

What are some good ways to work through making this decision with my partner? Any red flags that jump out to anyone based on this limited info?

Just looking to improve my education and intelligence.

So Im in my 20’s and I’ve never been exceptionally smart in studies my thing is always like a god in things like random trivia but in school my whole life I’ve always done just enough to get by and graduate. I didn’t even think about college after I just got a sales job which I was lucky enough to adapt to pretty quickly ,but now I’m getting to the point in my life where I would like to tremendously improve my intelligence any tips where I should start?

Standardized Testing Help/Advice!

Hello all,

I recently moved from Kansas to the New England area and I am totally out of my element with all of the standardized English/Language Arts tests I'm expected to have my students both prepare for and take. I am very worried that their results will reflect poorly on me, and I have absolutely no clue how to prepare them for so many tests in which I am unaware of their content. For example, I have two classes that score very high compared to every other class in the building, however their "growth rate" is much lower. Considering the school only takes into consideration their growth, this is very alarming to me.

My instinct is to simply disagree with standardization as a whole, as it truly doesn't align with my educational philosophy. With that in mind, I still want success for my students to the highest degree possible in whatever environment they find themselves in, including this one. I just walked into this situation after stemming from a very relaxed, teacher-autonomous environment in the Midwest, so I'm currently very out of my element. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how I can prepare students for these standardized tests in a way that sees consistent growth throughout the year?

Sign or Dont sign contract

Hello!

My school just released contracts for next school year, and I am currently applying for other positions. Should I sign my contract for next year, it doesnt start until august 13th, and then if I get a job is it okay to say sorry nevermind, or should I wait until I hear back from a job, but risk employer nagging me to sign.

Sorry gen x here. We became tech savvy We had to learn the entire computer at school or on our own. We didn't have a simple computer with nothing on it except school programs. Sorry but today's youth is tech illiterate. Apps and AI do everything and Google is the answer if they are actually not feeling really lazy.

Deciding on universities

Hello everyone! I don‘t even know where to start. I am about to graduate from high school and my next step now is to decide where to study and what to study. I have wanted to study abroad all my life. I love getting to know new cultures and I know that I would love it. I did an exchange in high school and I really enjoyed it. However, my parents basically told me that I have to go to the local university that is close to where we live or they wont pay a penny. It has very limited and basic choices. I also don‘t see myself living here for another four years because I‘m just very unhappy here. I see how it would be drowning slowly if I have to study there. I really don‘t know what to do. I have also been thinking about taking a gap year to get some money but my parents would probably kick me out and second of all since I don‘t have any relevant working experience I would probably have to work in a fast food chain for a year. This makes me so anxious that I’m even considering not going to uni.

Why do courses on celebrities lives exist?

I just found out that there is a course called Taylor Swift at harvard which I thought was stupid but then after a little googling she isn't the first one. There is a course for Beyonce, Rihanna, Madonna, Lady Gaga, TheWeeknd, Drake and MJ. I don't care what the students learn but this seems like a fkn CULT. Why doesn't it have other "normal" course names but then discuss "important" part of their lives? What value is there to say hey I studied Drake at harvard for a job? I get it some people take courses for the sake of fun but why not just use wikipedia in that case?

Insects matter

In this post I wanted to emphasize and mention the importance of insects and why we shouldn't kill them and teach the younger generation to stop being scared of them and stop killing them. Insects are harmless as long as we don’t attack them or bother them. Even though there is quite a variety of insects that are not the cleanest/pleasant to see, for example, cockroaches, bed bugs, and flies. There is no reason to be killing them, instead, it is better to maintain a clean area and a clean environment so that way they won't appear. Now when it comes to regular insects that we see regularly like bees, beetles, bugs, also moths, and butterflies (somewhat bigger insects), here in the USA we tend to be a little more sensitive and afraid of insects and we tend to kill them. We see them as a threat or as harmful living things, sometimes just because we see a weird-looking walking insect we step on it because we are afraid of what it may do. The younger generation grows with the same mentality and seeing these gestures allows them to kill insects as well. However, I wanted to make this post to promote the idea that these insects are harmless and instead important for us and our world so we need to stop killing them. Insects are one of the reasons why we have seeds and fruits. They facilitate the transfer of pollen between plants which helps the growth of our food. They are essential decomposers. They break down organic matter, such as dead plants and animals, into simpler compounds that enrich the soil with nutrients, benefiting other organisms. They maintain an ecological balance since they are prey as well as predators. They are also pest controllers(they contribute around $57 billion through services like pollination and pest control.). They also contribute to many medicines; bees and ants are an example. Lastly, they also contribute to art, literature, and many religious beliefs. So it's important that we teach our future generations that everything matters, insects matter a lot. As long as we are not in their way they won’t come after us. Insects just like us have the right to live. Killing them will just end their species and benefits.

Marketing/finance/what else to study?

Hi guys, I am graduating high school next year (I am from Slovakia, and I've been an exchange student in Florida last year)

I would like to ask what would you recommend to study in college. I was thinking about studying in Netherlands or Denmark (Copenhagen business school probably). So at school we have a class in which we are having our own company - we are making ecological powerbanks. It's been almost 10 months since we started and I really love it, so I was thinking about studying business further.

I was also thinking about becoming a diplomat because I love law, mostly criminal law (my life would be a literal dream to be a lawyer helping people get of trouble) but there's a thing that if I want to study law then I have to stay and work in the country I got the degree which is so bad for me because I love to travel and have have that feeling that I can move anywhere I want. (I would do that in Slovakia but the problem is that I don't like the government and people here, and it's probably not getting better any soon. The other thing is that there are too many lawyers in Slovakia which makes it too difficult to make enough money.)

So there are two options left for me. Studying some kind of business major or getting into diplomatic sphere.

Do you guys have any ideas on it?

Q RE Top Private US High School Application Deadlines

A friend of mine in China is asking this question: Of the top 50 private high schools in the US, are there any for which the application deadline for enrollment this fall has not yet passed (or if the official deadline has passed, there is at least some chance of admission, by virtue of wait lists or whatever)? He has an accomplished daughter who wants to apply for enrollment in the 10th grade at such a high school.

If this is not the appropriate place to ask this question, I apologize (I did my best to search for others) and would appreciate a referral to the appropriate subreddit or forum elsewhere.

How to see the date of original creation for google drive files transferred to another gmail using Google Takeout transfer?

My school email will be axed within a month, so I have to transfer files from my drive to another account using the Google Takeout transfer process. I started it yesterday, and some files have now just been copied and transferred to my new account. But the details of the copied files don't show the date the original file was created, only when it was copied. Also, the files don't appear to be created in chronological order based off the old drive. Is there no way to see the date the original file was created?

Questions about competency based admissions for masters programs

I’m a successful technology professional who is now in his early fifties but is starting to worry about not having completed my college degree. That’s in addition to it being one of my life goals. While I’m concerned about having the time I have begun researching my options and found an interesting new offering through the university of Colorado and Coursera.

University of Colorado Master’s of Engineering in Engineering Management

I can go straight to a master’s program by proving my competency in a series of courses. So, I was wondering first if anyone had experienced this or a similar program and had opinions of how it might be viewed by employers. And next, I wanted to compare it to other programs but have not been able to find any. So any suggestions would be appreciated!

Seeking Guidance: Pathway to MA in Early Childhood Education in the US

Hello everyone :) I'm seeking some advice regarding my impending educational journey in the US. Here's the deal: I'm from a country in Southeast Asia, and I've always been incredibly passionate about education. My ultimate goal is to open my own preschool one day.

Here's a bit about where I'm at: I'm starting from ground zero with no background in the field. However, I'm determined to make this dream a reality. I have the funds to support my venture, and I'm taking proactive steps by applying for internships at renowned international schools here in my country and pursuing online certifications in early childhood education.

A little backstory: I completed my undergrad degree in Communications in the US about six years ago, with a final GPA of 2.9. Academics were never my strong suit growing up, but I was fortunate enough to attend one of the best and most expensive schools in my country from kindergarten all the way to high school before pursuing higher education in the US.

Now, I know this might sound like a lofty goal, especially considering my poor academic history. But my passion for education runs deep, and I'm committed to making a positive impact on the lives of children in my country, especially those who may not have had the same opportunities I did. More than 70% of my country lives in poverty, and I firmly believe that there are countless bright minds out there who, if given the same opportunities as me, could potentially contribute amazing things to the world. I would also like to use this opportunity to learn how I can help educate and empower parents with the knowledge and tools to nurture confident and resilient children from a young age – something I wish I had growing up.

So here's where I need your help: I'm considering pursuing a master's degree in early childhood education in the US, but I'm unsure about the best pathway to take given my lack of background. I'm open to any advice, insights, or recommendations you may have, whether it's regarding suitable programs or institutions, alternative pathways, specific certifications that could help my lack of portfolio, or personal experiences.

I truly believe that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for our children, and I'm eager to learn and play my part in making that future a reality. Thank you in advance for your support and guidance – I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Dropping out

So recently i’ve decided to drop out during my junior year of high school and am curious if anybody has any tips for my situation: I currently will be undergoing an internship in city based welding (NY) and want to know if i need to finish highschool to pursue a welding career. Dropping out due to major depressive issues and personal problems that have lead to this decision. To sum it up, dropping out at 17, i have a internship as a welding under study and am curious if i would need a GED or highschool equivalent in the future to get a somewhat stable job.

So sick of not getting an opportunity to ask questions in university

I miss high school and college where I got a chance to ask the teacher questions.

At my University, professors just hate it when students try to ask a question. They rush off after class, and make themselves totally unavailable. They run maybe 1 or 2 question sessions before an exam, but I’ve been to all of them and it’s impossible to speak to an instructor. Most of the time, there’s 1-2 teachers for a course of 200+ students! I’ve tried waiting in line but the teachers leave before I get a turn to speak to someone.

I tried to email one of my professors with 4 questions about the content. I figured since I hadn’t bothered any teachers from that course with questions all semester, 4 questions wouldn’t be too bad. Before I sent these questions, I made sure to watch all the lecture and tutorial recordings, I even watched some twice to make sure I got as much out of them as I possibly could.

The reply I got was rather rude, the professor told me to watch the lectures and tutorials because I clearly hadn’t done that. And if I still have questions I have to go to the question session.

My grades are so much lower because my questions go unanswered, and it’s so frustrating and terribly discouraging. I genuinely just need some help and I’m paying tens of thousands to go to this school!

Has there ever been a study to evaluate the effectiveness of the 50% rule?

We're using the minimum of 50% rule at my school and what I'm seeing is the freshmen are able to eke their way out of classes like algebra 1 without actually mastering the material. This leads to them getting into geometry and algebra 2 later on but being unable to engage with the material because they didn't learn algebra one. I have attempted to Google this and every peer-reviewed paper really just seems to be somebody talking about it without any actual data points. Is this rule just so new that nobody has been able to do a long-term study yet?

Currently a Vietnamese senior student, will graduate around 08/2024. I need some advice on applying for Master's degree abroad.

A bit about me:

  • CPA: 3.24
  • IELTS: 7.0
  • Current Status: Fourth-year student, graduating in August 2024
  • Goal: To study abroad in 2025
  • Field of Interest: Cyber Security
  • Current Job: Cyber Security researcher (focused on auditing source code)
  • Purpose for Master’s Degree: To engage with a global working environment and improve my resume
  • (Should I add anything else?)

My question:

  1. Is a Master's degree only focused on researching a topic? I read that to apply for a Master's degree, I need to find a research topic, find a group with similar interest (those currently studying for their Master's), and then apply for that school. Is this the case for all Master's programs, or are there other formats, e.g. just studying like in Univeristy, but with more advanced knowledge?
  2. I also read that a LOR is a must, is that true? Any suggestion on getting a strong LOR?
  3. Where can I find Master's degree programs? Currently I'm searching on https://www.masterstudies.com/programs. Is this sufficient, or are there other resources I should consider?
  4. Is there a centralized resource or platform for finding scholarships?
  5. Are there any universities you would recommend for a Cyber Security Master’s degree?
  6. Any other advice or recommendations for someone in my situation?

I incredibly appreciate any guidance. Thanks so much for your time.

Educators: how useful would a screen recording tool be to your learning institution, is this a good pursuit?

The title is quite obvious. I got this idea when working with a client who is an employee from a local university, in the middle of all the chatting we were doing he just asked me 'Is there a way you can send this to me through video?"

i had no idea what he was talking about, but that sparked up an idea Ive been chasing since and i was looking for feedback

a screen recording tool for feedback, particularly for learning spaces, one that can be sent to a group or individuals. I personally think its brilliant, would help with problem solving, assessment, referencing, quick understanding, direct pictures, etc the possibilities are endless!! and personally i live for the idea, I believe students would benefit more from video feedback rather than text feedback sent via e-mail

I don’t advocate it replacing books or traditional work, but I believe it has its place.

The fact that a service like Zoom has licenses for Universities makes it even more criminal that we don’t have video feedback in the university. There are many acceptable screen-recording software that can facilitate this.

I believe it is possible and I know it can help our learning. What do you guys think?

teaching suggestions

Hi all! I am currently a GTA where I am the instructor of record (fully responsible for teaching an undergrad class by myself). This was my first year teaching and I am currently reflecting on how this year went as well as how I want to grow as an instructor.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to make my class more impactful to my students. I will be teaching an introductory to psychology course.

Looking for ideas: fun activities/assignments/projects/teaching methods etc?????

What is a project or activity that you have done in a class as a student that you enjoyed or thought was beneficial/meaningful?

Or what is something a professor has done. in a class that will stay with you?

if you teach what is something that you recommend?

Thanks in advance and i am SO excited to read what all you have to share!

I have a 14 year old who has just completed mocks and did well.

Today I received an email from the school which included this line

I am writing to inform you [name redacted] will now be studying for the Separate Sciences. This means they will study for three Separate Science GCSEs (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).

What does this mean? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Bachelors (or equivalent) in less than 3 years?

Hey all,

First of all, I really have to ask you for non-judgemental reaction, as I know many people from education sector tend to judge people for not following the same educational system as they did, and to look down on people without a degree. I just experienced it too many times.

So I work in banking, currently on a relatively high position already, responding directly to the CCO. I made a mistake when I was in uni. Few months before graduation I dropped out due to mental health issues. A year after I tried again and failed to graduate out of the same reasons.

It’s been years, and whenever something comes up in my career ladder, I literally can feel the breath of lack of any sort of degree on the back of my neck.

And the thing is - I studied economy. Unlike most of my uni colleagues (that in fact graduated), I do work at least more or less in the area I studied for. I’m good at what I’m doing, and I know the sector at least quite well. At the same time, I’ve got no space in my life to go and attend classes on the weekends for 3 years straight.

Resuming my old studies is not an option, since too much time passed.

Starting a new one in a standard programme isn’t an option either since I’ve got family to take care of, therapy, and other personal stuff that fills my calendar in general.

I know there are some schools that offer accelerated courses, but this is very often stationary, and very far from where I live (Poland).

I don’t mind studying in English at all, but I need remote, accelerated and LEGIT course that will end with an academic, bachelor’s degree. Money also isn’t an issue that much.

Did any of you maybe managed to fix a similar mistake of their youth quickly?

I’m asking here since there’s a ton of online schools that give fake degrees these days.

YouTube attracts me !!

It seems like I've gone crazy because of YouTube, and I haven't been able to focus on my studies at all. Whenever I intend to watch educational videos, as soon as I open YouTube, its homepage attracts me towards it, and after spending 30 minutes to 1 hour on it, I realize why I opened YouTube in the first place. Is there any way to only see educational videos on YouTube?

Leaving education, and I wrote this to find peace in all of it: 1000 Years

1000 years

1000 years of teaching but in reality it was only 10. She did her job and lay to rest so my new life could begin.

1000 years of teaching made her a majestic beast. But in reality the years went by and her spirit did decrease.

1000 years of teaching and it seemed like there would be more. But in reality all the time was weighing at her core.

1000 years of teaching made her seem scary and unkind. But in reality she was everything consistent when her students left her behind.

1000 years of teaching she persisted despite the evil at her feet. In reality she can let go and know it’s not in any way a defeat.

1000 years of teaching may be how it felt- but in reality I survived this discouraging hand I was dealt. Because in 1000 years there has always been a teacher to see you through- and I hope in all my heart you know I tried to be good to all of you. To make you laugh, help you create, and learn to fight your fears; and though I’m done, that you all know I will love you for 1000 years.

1000 years of teaching but in reality it was only ten. It’s time for her to lay to rest, so my new life can now begin.

Why do we have to study so many different things?

It kinda feels like a scam and unnecesssary burden. Half of the stuff you learn in school or college you’ll have to revisit anyways as you go , because it’s impossible to retain all that variety of information. Seems like half of it is a waste of time. Not even gonna talk about middle school and high school being where dreams and passions literally die. If those don’t die then your mental does. Everything is forced down your throat..regardless if you’ve already decided a major or not. Someone who’s interested in economics should NOT have to learn chemistry.. WHY DO WE DO THIS ? Same for college. For example i wanted to study physics purely from a theoretical POV ..why the fck do I need to know trigonometry.. at least make it a recommended course but make it optional to opt out. I’m sorry but I failed Trig in college twice cause it coincided with some other life changes and I had to watch my dreams die because of that . I just couldn’t *memorize ** TRIG but why should I have to memorize if I can google it at any time ??? Why is this a requirement. 4 years later and it seems like all the education I’ve received my whole life was useless.. and only served as a way to exercise the mind… if I’ve learned anything is to tolerate unpleasant situations where you’re forced to learn things you don’t care about . I’m not sure if I wanna go back to college. My co worker is studying health psychology and I saw her reading up on genitals the other day… I mean it’s one thing to know the different STDs and genital pathologies and how they relate to psychology or something … but why do I need to know what the fallopian tubes are and what they’re called .. they didn’t even touch on nutrition as much as they touched on THAT !! Please don’t downvote me. This was probably a bad example , but PLEASE tell me you relate??? What’s your major and do you suffer in the same way??

Help Addressing a Mismanaged Discrimination Incident?

Good evening,

I am reaching out to address a concerning matter that my wife and several colleagues encountered at her workplace, an elementary charter school. Despite bringing the issue to the attention of the school principal, it has unfortunately not been properly addressed. This lack of action has left my wife's colleagues feeling disillusioned and frustrated, as similar incidents have previously been mishandled.

The incident in question occurred when a staff member, known as "Sarah," made derogatory and racially charged comments in the staff lounge in front of my wife and several colleagues. Sarah's behavior, which included singling out teachers of color and making disparaging remarks about their competence, has created a hostile work environment. To be more specific, she singled out teachers of color without necessarily mentioning their race. She later went on to make contrastive statements with the subject being “white women teachers.” It was crystal clear at this moment that Sarah’s actions were racially motivated.

Despite attempts by concerned teachers to address Sarah's behavior, she doubled down on the “serious issues” with the previously mentioned teachers and even suggested that there were concerns with the people she’d initially made her racial remarks to. It’s clear that addressing this with Sarah is not an option.

Furthermore, my wife’s colleagues were dismayed when the principal later confronted them angrily, seemingly misinformed about the events that transpired. Despite their efforts to explain the situation, they were dismissed without proper consideration as the principal continued to shout at them for their apparent disrespect toward Sarah. Those colleagues later expressed to my wife that they had trouble sleeping and were in fear of unrightfully loosing their job for some time after.

The situation was later addressed again by the principal, more calmly so, but the result was a clear determination by the principal that Sarah’s actioned were not explicit enough for remediate action. The two colleagues that principal spoke with at this time express that they believe principal is trying to sweep this under the rug.

It has come to our attention that Sarah has a history of targeting colleagues and initiating their dismissal through manipulation. This pattern of behavior has successfully occurred with four former members of her own team over the few years she’s worked at this elementary school. It is deeply concerning to every other teacher and has created a culture of fear among staff members. Some believe that, as a staff member, this is how Sarah masks her own performance issues. This is, of course, conjecture as nobody is quite sure of Sarah’s relationship with the principal and why she’s seemed to have so much power at the school.

In light of these developments, my wife and her colleagues are considering escalating the matter to the local board for charter schools. However, they seek guidance on how best to document and present their case. Specifically, they are unsure about what information to prioritize and how to gather evidence effectively.

I’ve suggested they should consider collecting testimonials from everyone who experienced what Sarah had to say, as well as character witnesses statements from whoever is willing. However, I’m not too sure how they should do this for a school board.

Any insights or recommendations you can offer would be greatly appreciated as my wife and her colleagues prepare to address this matter formally. Thank you for your attention and assistance.

Can I get a masters degree in a different subject than my bachelors?

12 years out of school. I majored in psychology and minored in art. I’m thinking about getting a masters degree in art so I can teach but not 100% sure about the logistics. Would I need to get a second bachelor degree in art or just take some extra courses to catch up before starting a masters program?

Student Paper Mail

Hello, everyone!

Small question: why is my middle school addressing paper mail to students and not the parents? I can't remember ever getting mail addressed to me until I was an adult. What is the purpose of addressing mail to the student instead of the parent? Like report cards, progress reports, parent meetings, everything gets addressed to the child, even though it's for the parent. Just wondering when/why that started happening?

I used to be a paraeducator in elementary schools and worked all grades K-5. I left because of the weird lack of boundaries in the schools I worked in. Like first name basis between students and staff, hugging and other physical contact. So, I may be over reacting with the address thing, but it makes me uncomfortable when adults treat children like adults. It all just feels unprofessional and the boundaries seem too blurry for my preferences 🤷

I’m passionate about absolutely nothing.

I’m currently in the middle of my gap year and I’m trying to figure out what I want to do but nothing I’ve tried exploring is interesting to me.

I’m not even sure if I want to go to uni but I can’t find any courses or trades that make me think “yes this is what I want to do”.

It’s so frustrating. I know what I DON’T want to do (math, sciences, computers etc) and I know I’m more arty but I don’t want to become an artist.

I feel like a let down because I’m not doing anything, I’m currently trying to learn photoshop because I was maybe thinking about getting into photography but my dads been so hard on me about it that I think I’ve completely lost interest.

Instead of colleges coming to give speeches in high school they should have brought in different job specialists so we can grasp what it’s really like because I haven’t got a clue. Has anyone been in my position and can help me out?

Or can anyone recomend some ACTUAL good sites that help you find out what niche best suites you?

Creating a food safety course with a lab component, looking for interesting experiment ideas. I have listed two below that I have already decided would be good ideas.

Hello all,

I'm currently developing the lab component of a food safety course and am looking for interesting experiments I might be able to run. The ones I currently plan to do include:

  1. filter apple juice for spoilage bacteria (some spoilage bacteria in apple juice can survive the pasteurization process. This has been tested and worked well with organic apple juices).
  2. test chicken for salmonella (get fresh chicken from grocery store that day)
  3. test alfalfa for bacteria and fungus.

If you have any more I would gladly take them. I am hoping to have at least 5 activities. I have an hour to work with each week for each section. If an idea would take longer than an hour, then it would have to be one that could be stored week to week with little issue.

Thank you

Wht could I teach my older students?

So, I am teaching a course about Computer Use for older people.

My students are on the 'advanced' level, but most of them aren't interested in more difficult things like programming or creating websites, they just want to edit photos or use excel for personal finances.

The topics I have covered are:

  • AI (from chatGPT to image generators)
  • All of Office and Google tools
  • Canva (Creating designs and videos)
  • Syncing files using services like Google Drive or Onedrive
  • Phising, 2-factor security and online security in general
  • Online media literacy
  • How a computer works (its components and their functions)
  • Our country's Health app
  • Calendar and scheduling online
  • Zoom / Meet and Teams
  • Wordpress

I have ran out of ideas.

What could I teach them next?

feels like its too late to start

i am a paranoid schizophrenic with intense social anxiety, and for the last 4 years i havent gotten real education. the last 4 years ive just had "courses" that has learned me nothing, and actually wont be able to help me get further since its not eduction in the goverments eyes. (in my eyes too)

i live in denmark so our school system is a bit different from the american one, but im starting at a real school that is kinda like "pre college" or what will give me access to college further down my life (not high school) and i just feel bad about it, since the people my age have already graduated. like, years ago.

some of them are already going to university, while i wont even be able to apply for university until 2027. i just regret not being in education the last few years so bad, even if it was because of mental health, and i was just wondering if there are any others that have been in the same boat, or have any advice to get out of my head about this?

Even though we blame ChatGPT and other AI, aren't they amazing?

I was late to school one day due to very personal reasons and had so much stress cause I was not ready for the day. Also, I was supposed to give a quiz to students, and it was such a mess. I do know about ChatGPT, but actually, I didn't think about it at that time. It requires effort, so I didn't use it. But when I was researching, I found an article with a premade prompt, so it was easier than I thought. Does anyone have experience with unprepared days and more tips?

Im being forced to take all the Keystones at once?

I am a junior in pennsylvania, and im currently being told by my school counselor and special ed instructor that I must take all of the keystones this year? Which is conflicting because I had been told previously that I was exempt from the Keystones in 9th and 10th grade due to being hospitalized, I was never told I would just have to take them the next year (or years). I realize I need the keystones to get a regular diploma, but nobody ever informed me on this or told me anything about how this system works. How difficult is it to get a diploma by IEP? I do have an IEP and 504 plan, but theyre due to being bipolar (schizoeffective), delayed in math and some other health issues. I dont really know what to do tbh, nobody is helping me out here. I guess im just looking for advice.

Math for

This is a UK question but I suspect a the issues will be pretty international.

I mentor people who have gone through sight loss, often young women in at a time they would normally be in education. Right now it takes the authorities way too long to create a formal plan for a young person in school who doesn't have good eyesight. This means sitting around at home for six months or most of a year depending on timing. That is a disaster for people with a lot of academic ability and ambition in a situation where they really need some structure and normality in life. Sitting at home while your buddies go off to be undergrads is salt in the wound.

Some of the people I know are from families who could afford private tutors many of whom have been wonderful. The thing is we have encountered a very variable attitude. Some of them felt it was necessary to have some sort of special qualification though they never had any idea what qualification that would be. I mean clearly you aren't going to book someone to do some sort of art course based on photography or whatever. But we've had people say they couldn't do mathematics, which we know you can, because people we know have aced math GCSEs with zero sight. It needs a problem solving attitude but dealing with sight loss is mostly not rocket science, ask me how I know.

I would be interested to hear any ideas on this especially from people outside the UK because I want to know what to say to people. Clearly it can be done, we know people who have done it, but I guess it's just creating a bunch of extra work for someone who's paid by the hour and I guess I get the hesitation. What do we think?

Hi everyone!

So I’m starting my program soon, and it’s regional. So I’ll only have to be in person once a week. I’m wondering if it would be worth it to move to the city in which my campus is at, since it’ll only be a few months. Instead of staying in my current city and having to travel to this city every week. The program that I am in is pretty challenging so I was wondering if being close to campus would increase my chances of succeeding in my courses. Thanks in advance! I’m in practical nursing btw.

Where and how to get back into education?

Hey,

So to provide some context to my situation, I started my A levels 3 years ago at 17 years old and dropped out after a year due to getting severe panic attacks. Because of this, I have sort of spiralled out of control and I now struggle to leave my house.

As I am now 20, I think now is a good time to make the decision to get back into education. Now, if things would have went the way I wanted them to I would most likely be studying computer science or something alike in an actual university (I want to work in web development, software development, web design, game development, etc)

So, seeing as I struggle to leave my house the only option I have left is to begin studying at home. I have researched Open University but the degree (Computing & IT) isn’t necessarily what I’m looking for as I don’t think it will give me the skills I need to become a web/software developer. I have also looked into the Bsc Degree in Computer Science at University of London, but have heard that it isn’t very practical?

I’m feeling a little stuck. I don’t think I could just follow a course on Udemy because there isn’t much of a provided structure, so I’d get lazy and just slack off. Whereas, if I enrolled to an ACTUAL qualification, I’d be more likely to finish it.

I know the ‘basics’ of html and css but that’s about it. Any recommendations?

I need a program with structure, something that will hold me accountable to my work, something that will provide me with an actual qualification that can be used in the world, something that will teach me from beginner to advanced - like how a university should do.

Daily newsletter/email to keep up to date on Education?

So I started a job in education (doing data for an organization in education, not as an educator/admin) relatively recently and I am learning a lot as I go. There is a lot of information that I am having to gain as I go that isn't necessarily REQUIRED for the job but would be nice to know.

That being said, I think a good way to learn some of that information is to read news and keep up to date on current discussions in education. I get a local newsletter about local happenings, a world news newsletter about world happenings, etc. so I figured why not get one on Education.

So all that being said, does anyone have any morning newsletter that provides a run down of current discussion/news in the education sector?

I knew my grades were odd early in the year and I wasn't getting much feedback with each of my essays (I'm talking like 4 pieces of generic feedback at most). I think they might be using AI to correct the essays because the language of the feedback was in American English and had a strange voice to it. In the exam, I also got marked up on questions I only wrote a paragraph for. My friend suggested writing 'potato' in my essays to catch out that they aren't being read. I thought that might be a little on the nose, so instead I looked up the lyrics from various Rick Astley songs and wormed them into sentences or rephrased sentences to incorporate a parallel to the lyrics and then cited Rick Astley. I just got my grades for the last 4 essays back and it has not been commented on in any of them. One of the ones I used was 'never going to let you down'. Any human should have caught it I'm sure.

I brought this up previously on a different education subreddit and was told that I should stay quiet and not be spoiled since the grades I get are high 70s and 80s anyway. This is the UK and I attempted to look up the whistleblowing policy at my school but they only have one for the lecturers, not the students. My friend suggested the students union but I'd rather not physically be on campus with this information just in case. I'm also worried that they might strike back at me more subtly. I'm planning to leave this university after the exams anyway and do Open instead. I would quite like to chuck a (metaphorical) grenade over my shoulder on the way out with this evidence, who should I give it to who won't just bury it?

What's best for a master's degree in bioinformatics?

What do you think is the best option for later enrollment in a bioinformatics graduate program - a bachelor's degree in math and computer science or applied math and computer science? Is applied math better than fundamental math for bioinformatics?

AI anxiety

Hey everyone,

I have been thinking about the use of AI in education. As I am a Univeristy student and sometimes scared to use it. I want to know your experience of using AI for educational purposes.

Have you ever experienced a situation when you felt insecure or nervous about using AI tools or platforms for your coursework? For example, you felt that there is a problem of confidentiality, control, or you simply don't like the fact that AI is incorporated into your learning process.

I think that maybe societal norms and cultural values may affect our views on AI in education. Is it possible that cultural perspectives toward technology and education could be a factor in the way that the students see and engage with AI?

Let me know if you want to discuss anything in particular, such as your experience, thoughts or worries. I am looking forward to your replies. Thanks!
