How valid are Renaissance Star Results ?

My freshman came home with the results of his Star reading test.

He scored 1236. 99th percentile. Instructional Reading Level: PSH

Thing is ... he doesn't read. At all. Just the absolute bare minimum to get by in school and no recreational reading.

Yet he's 99th percentile.

And his parents are not particularly bright ...

Can these results be trusted?
