Is a career switch with a masters degree in education worth it?

Hi, I (24F) studied geology during my undergrad but there aren’t many opportunities for a career in the field in my country (third world country problems). I graduated last year and currently, I work as a content/copywriter. I mostly ghostwrite stuff for different clients of a content marketing company.

I have been thinking of pursuing a masters degree in education policy. I’m quite passionate about education and I’ve been teaching my siblings and other children in our community for a few years. I want to scale it up and reach the wider community. However, I don’t have any professional or on-paper experience in the field. My ultimate goal is to help young children who don’t have access to elite schools and quality education.

I want to get into a top school abroad for my masters degree. Preferably an Ivy League college (too ambitious I know). There are a few scholarship programs that can help me do it. However, It feels far fetched because I don’t have steller grades from my undergrad degree.

How difficult do you think it would be to get into a top university in the US? Considering, I don’t have a background in the field or great grades. I plan on working hard on the GRE, but would that compensate for the grades? I’m also fairly active in community development activities locally.

More importantly, what are the prospects of this degree? Ideally, I want to work for an international organisation or an NGO that works in the education field. Has anyone made a similar switch? What has been your experience? What advice would you give?
