I am a senior high school student in Massachusetts and my teacher and his wife who also teaches are being forced to take medical leave because they have not been given the option to stay remote. These two teachers mean so much to me, all of their students, and the school's community as a whole. They originally planned on retiring a year ago, but after meeting my class they decided to postpone retirement for a year so they could see us graduate. These teachers care so much about all of their students and ANY student who has had them will tell you that these teachers have had an undeniable impact on their lives.
The school district is making teachers choose between their careers/ community and their health. The two teachers I am talking about are not the only ones in this situation. I have linked a petition a peer of mine created to change this policy in the school district. All of the students and teachers today have been hyper-focused on this issue and it's devastating to everyone affected. I hope some of you will read this and leave a signature. Covid-19 has already taken so much from our communities, we can't let it take away our best teachers too. Thank you for your time.
