Why? What is the purpose, the benefit? Why do some schools have A B and C days, while others have just A/B days? It sounds like a logistical nightmare to me. I went to 2 high schools that just relied on a single schedule year round. The 2nd high school had 2 different lunch periods, but the first one only had 1 lunch that was 40min.
I think about how this could negatively affect countless students who thrive off of routine, sameness, consistently, flow, etc, and then it's all thrown out the window and it might affect their mood and productivity in all aspects of waking life throughout the week. I think about how it affects special education students, whether they're transitioning from classroom to to classroom, or in self contained classes, or only out for an elective and lunch. The emotional transition has to got be so detrimental to those students who can't handle the unpredictable and off-balance change of the times on a daily basis. I struggled enough with a/b/c/d scheduling that we had during state mandated standardized-test week, and when finals-week impacted different lunch periods and dismissal times. It was detrimental to me and caused me to have breakdowns and become emotionally unhinged. I'm autistic but with very low support needs. I thrive off of routine and predictability. Had I gone to a high school with ever-changing schedules, i would have been a complete train wreck without the ability to recover like most other people. The whole a/b/c time table just absolutely baffles me, leaves me flabbergasted as to why total monsters think this is an ideal way to run their schools, dictate their teachers and support staff, and rule with an iron fist over their students. I could never, ever, learn or work at such a school that intentionally implements such a strange shitshow of a scheduling system. It just seems so broken to me.
