Educators at K-12 schools with academic admissions standards, what is it like?

What is your experience like at your school that accepts and rejects people based on academics? How attentive and respectful are students, how are they performing, and what are parents like?

I hear a lot of despair on this sub about teaching experiences in K-12 mostly public schools (kids with behavior problems, parenting issues, socioeconomic issues that can't be blamed on families but are still affecting them). How often are you seeing (or not seeing) those issues, and how do they compare?
