Miguel Cardona is unfit for leadership of the U.S. Dept. of Education
submission statement: It is time for r/education and the citizens of America to hold accountable the corruption currently going unchecked across the country at a state and federal level within the field of education. The students of America deserve a better future.
Beginning in 2019, numerous employees in the states of Nevada and New Mexico began violating state and federal laws to circumvent the rights of state college students. This documented pattern of corruption extends beyond public administrators, and also includes the system of higher education, the regents, and the board of trustees.
Both state Attorney Generals have been made aware. Nevada AG Aaron Ford gave a legal decision that was rebuked directly by the Department of Education as a shirking of responsibilities. This is part of a larger pattern confirmed by the Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske that Aaron Ford operates outside of the constitution. New Mexico AG Hector Balderas stated that his office would compel The University of New Mexico into compliance due to their documented unlawful actions. No actions were ever taken by the New Mexico AG’s office, and subsequent communications have been ignored.
The sitting Governor of Nevada Steve Sisolak is a former member of the Nevada System of Higher Education, and his office has stated being “too busy” to investigate crimes including narcotics trafficking that university police actively aid and abet, kidnappings, assaults, and retaliation by public officials. Steve Sisolak has notably made multiple televised appearances on campus since this statement, grandstanding and glad handing. Governor Sisolak has shown through his actions to be more concerned with UNLV’s financial interests than with student safety. Similarly, when Governor Grisham of New Mexico was contacted about violations in New Mexico, no action was taken. Governor Grisham has been preoccupied making monthly payments to a male coworker for sexually harassing him. This has all been described as above board because Governor Grisham makes these payments out of her re-election campaign finances.
The Department of Education has been aware for years of this abuse. Former Secretary DeVos chose to ignore this matter completely. When Miguel Cardona started the position I received a response letter stating the matter would be investigated. To date the only action the Department of Education has done on my behalf is to void my federal student loans due to determined “fraudulent communications” (Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities). Miguel Cardona has the oversight and authority to clean this corruption up. Instead, much like current UNLV President Whitfield who brags about the thousands of new students, both care more about bottom lines while defrauding as many students as possible. Miguel Cardona is unwilling to make the changes that are necessary for this country to have a functioning, safe, and equitable educational system. Miguel Cardona is not doing his best for America, and is letting students down. The taxpayers and families pay the cost so that profit margins go unwaveringly up.
Education in America is a scam at present, with criminals masquerading behind the noble pursuit. Every step of accountability from commissioners, to state ethics commissions, to the Department of Health, to the legislature have failed to do proper oversight, states are allowed to run higher education as a business where students enrolling is the most important aspect. Student graduation does not matter in this corrupt equation, only loans and bills. NSHE has a budget of over 1 billion dollars a year, with regents who on paper do not make a salary. New regents are threatened with not rocking the boat as documented in the local papers, this is not education, this is organized crime. Miguel Cardona is unfit for his leadership position, and President Joe Biden should appoint a new fearless leader that upholds the rights of students.
