Excluding boys from STEM

My kids' public high school in Massachusetts had this announcement:

The Girls Who Code Club is having a meeting on Wednesday during win red! Get a pass on the sign up genius and heard to the library. If you don’t know how to code, no worries! If you’re stress about AP compsci, we can help! If you just want to test your brain a little while playing games, we’ve got that too! All girls and gender queer students are welcome.

So if you are a straight male, we don't want you. I don't think public schools should be excluding students from academically oriented clubs on the basis of sex or sexual orientation. I wonder if it is legal.
