For the last fifty years, education in the USA has been pouring money into the project of trying find and implement the “most effective” ways to mold students into a particular desirable “product” as defined by the state. The needed paradigm shift is to start prioritizing the need for students to have access to different models of education, aimed at different goals, that are better suited to who they are.
In a nutshell, our current model spends immense sums trying to invent a way to turn all kinds of substances into gold, instead trying to see what kind of value each substance has and what kind of formation it is best suited to.
